Michael Farenas Career

Professional career

Farenas made his professional debut against Octavio Olinar at the Sports and Cultural Complex in Mandaue, Philippines, on September 19, 2004. After 2 rounds, the match came to a technical draw.

Farenas defeated Mexican boxer Baudel Cardenas in the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez big fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Paradise, Nevada, on March 15, 2008. After a third-round technical knockout, the Filipino hopeful gained the match by a technical knockout. Farenas landed a devastating low blow in round 3 after knocking down Cardenas twice in the second round. The Mexican had five minutes to recover, but he was unable to continue, causing the referee to call the match off.

Farenas advanced to the superfighterweight division in his next fight against Fermin delos Santos. On May 17, 2008 at the Plaza Monumental in Aguascalientes, Mexico, the two groups clashed. After 8 rounds, the Filipino boxer defeated his opponent by a unanimous decision. Gerry Pealosa, the protégé of former WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Pealosa trained under Freddie Roach's guidance during the fight.

Farenas won the World Professional Boxing Federation featherweight title on October 3, 2009, defeating South Korean fighter Jae-Bong Jang in nine rounds.

Farenas was included in the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey fight undercard on March 13, 2010. Joe Morales, an American boxer, was up against him. After a non-match of heads that opened a bad cut in respect of Morales' right eye, the match came to a deadlock after the second round. This compelled the Ringside doctor to call off the match.

Farenas debuted his nephew Marlon "Rata" Aguilar of Nicaragua in the Latin Fury 14 pay-per-view, which highlighted Antonio Margarito's return to Aguascalientes, Mexico, against Roberto Garcia. On May 8, 2010, a fight took place. Farenas lost by an eight-round unanimous vote and effectively ended his chances of competing in a potential world championship match.

Fares had a difficult time with Aguilar, who had the advantage during combat sequences. In the third round, the Filipino boxer attempted to be more aggressive, but his momentum was stifled after he suffered a low blow. The referee disobeyed a point from Farenas for low blows and then again in round eight. The former was way behind on points and needed a knockout to win, but he didn't seem to have the energy or the desire to get it done. The Filipino fighter had a second low blow in the last round of the tournament.

After the Aguilar fight and a draw against Takashi Uchiyama for the WBA championship, Farenas won 7 straight fights. On December 8, 2012, he secured an undercard match at Pacquiao-Marquez 4 event. In a 12-round contest for the interim WBA title, he defeated highly regarded Yuriorkis Gamboa. Farenas was knocked down twice before being unable to produce a knockdown of his own in the ninth round. Farenas, on the other hand, were disqualified by a unanimous decision.

Farenas defeated Gerardo Zayas, who had a record of 19-21-2, on April 27, 2013. Farenas defeated Zayas three times in the first round, resulting in a TKO victory over the journeyman.
