Michael Blackwood (born in Clarendon on August 29, 1976) is a Jamaican male track and field athlete who competed in the 400 meters, his personal record being 44.60 set during his 2002 IAAF World Cup victory. * In 2002, he was named Jamaica Sportsman of the Year by the International Athletic Federation, and in that year, he was ranked number one in the 400 meters. * He is the brother of Catherine Scott, who earned a silver medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In 1997, Blackwood captured the NAIA national 400 meters championship. * He has been voted champion of Jamaica 400 meters national championships three times. In a time of 44.69, Blackwood set a new record in the 400 meters since 2000. * He is an alumnus of The University of Oklahoma. Blackwood was a bronze medalist at the 2003 Commonwealth Games, the bronze medalist at the 2003 World Championships, the silver medalist at the 2002 Olympic Games, and a semi-finalist at the 2005 World Championships. He had a lot of success with the Jamaican 4400 meters relay team, winning silver at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, silver at the 2001 and 2003 World Championships, a bronze at the 2005 World Championships, and a bronze at the 2005 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Blackwood vowed to compete in the 2009 World Championships in Athletics, but was disqualified from participating outside his lane in the 400-m semi-finals in August.
