Michael John Bergin (born March 18, 1969) is an American model and actor.
Early life
Bergin, who was born in Naugatuck, Connecticut, attended the University of Connecticut. When he first started modeling, he was hooked on it.
Personal life
Bergin met Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, a Calvin Klein publicist whose burgeoning romance with John F. Kennedy, Jr., whom she later married in September 1996. In July 1999, Kennedy and Bessette-Kennedy were killed in a plane crash. Bergin wrote a book about his friendship with Bessette, The Other Man, in early 2004, claiming that they had been having a sexual affair even before Bessette was dating Kennedy and during their marriage.
Bergin married makeup artist Joy Tilk, with whom he has two children (Jesse born on October 8, 2000; Alana born February 16, 2004).
Bergin has worked with the D.A.R.E.'s anti-drug children's service. He has lent his name, time, and image to several AIDS charities around the world.
Career
Bergin is perhaps best known as Mark Wahlberg's replacement in Calvin Klein's scathing series of black-and-white underwear commercials. Bergin has walked the runways of New York City, Paris, and Milan for Sonia Rykiel, Valentino, Calvin Klein, Gianfranco Ferré, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, and Donna Karan, as the exclusive model for Claiborne for Men, a part of Liz Claiborne, Inc. for over three years, in addition to his high-profile role as Calvin Klein's "spokesbody" for Calvin Klein. He has also appeared in commercials and print ads for Kellogg's, Bacardi Rum, L'Oréal, Maybelline, Coty, Coty, Valentino, Perry Ellis, and Liz Claiborne. Bergin has been signed to Wilhelmina Models in New York City and New York Model Management.
Bergin went beyond the fashion business to act, portraying J.D. Darius on Baywatch and later Baywatch: Hawaii for 88 episodes from 1997 to 2001, and later in the made-for-TV Film Baywatch: Hawaii. In 2003, the same character appeared in the made-for-TV Film Baywatch: Hawaii.
