Menaye Donkor (born 20 March 1981) is a Canadian-born Ghanaian businesswoman, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and former beauty queen who was named Miss Universe Ghana 2004 and represented Ghana in Miss Universe Ghana.
Donkor is the wife of Ghanaian professional footballer Sulley Muntari.
Early life and education
Menaye Donkor was raised by her parents in Accra, Ghana, and she is the youngest of seven siblings with four brothers and two sisters. She inherited the job title "Royal Stool Bearer" from her paternal grandmother, who is also the Queen mother of Agona Asafo at the age of 7. Donkor began her Ghana education, lived and studied in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, during her high school years, and then moved back to Toronto, where she graduated with distinctions. She shot film at The Studio (formerly The Sally Johnson Studio) in New York City and then completed a film course with Brian Deacon at the London Academy of Film, Media and Television in the summer of 2011.
Career
Donkor earned the title Miss Universe Ghana in her early twenties and spent a few years as a model. She appeared on several newspapers in Ghana, South Africa, and Italy, including New African Woman, Pompey Life, SportsWeek (La Gazetta dello sport), Maxim Italy, and Maxim Italy. In 2012 and 2013, she appeared at the Cannes Film Festival for the first time. Sulley Muntari's co-managed and sold her then-boyfriend Sulley Muntari from 2006 to 2009. She became the face of Printex, a Ghana-based fabric and textiles company, in 2012. Both 2012 and 2013. Menaye was the ambassador for Africa Fashion Week London. She also owns and operates a Ghana real estate firm.
Menaye created and launched SHE-Y, a luxury Italian brand. Using ethically sourced Shea butter from Ghana, the brand launched its first all-natural products early in 2016. Her brand contributes to Shea Butter production by increasing employment opportunities. SHE-Y's net proceeds go to help educate less fortunate children.
