Men have dominated this year's Television and Radio Industries Club Awards with just six of the 28 nominees for the major categories women. Claire Sweeney has taken a break from her role as Cassie Plummer on Coronation Street to film another television show, it has been reported. However, after Iain McLeod departed Coronation Street's boss for a larger role at the broadcaster over six years last week, he has failed to entice anyone to host the show, which is set in the fictional town of Weatherfield. MacLeod's wife and deputy, Verity MacLeod, is filling in until they find someone to do the job as a result of a stop gap.

Fans of Soap have been divided on Monday's TV Choice Awards, which saw Emmerdale crowned Best Soap, a Soap. The rise seems to be owing in part to the freetravel app FreeNow's initiative, which allows passengers to hail private hire cars similar to Uber but also black cabs. The German-based company is giving a voucher to finish the exam, which can cost people up to £10,000.
