After having played the role of Police Lieutenant Kate Dixon for the last three seasons, ending with season 23, writers of the show made a point of disclosing her exit story. To explain her absence from series, Lt. Dixon moves away with her deaf son Patrick (James Caverly), and then in the new episode, titled Catch And Kill, Junior Detective Vincent Riley (Reid Scott) gets a text from her character. 'Patrick got a great job at a school in Miami. Mom is tagging along. Didn't want to make a big to-do about it, tears and all that. Come visit,' Det. Riley reads the text to Det. Jalen Shaw (Mehcad Brooks), as reported by Deadline. The Catch And Kill premiere episode also introduced viewers to Lieutenant Jessica Brady (Maura Tierney), who replaced Dixon as the new commanding officer of the Manhattan North Homicide Squad's 27th Precinct.
