Matthew Pinsent (left), 53, has waded into the controversy and said the IOC faces some 'major challenges' as it looks to move past the scandal. The gender row has overshadowed the games after two athletes, Algeria's Imane Khelif (right) and Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting, won gold in boxing despite failing a gender test and being kicked out of the Boxing World Championships last year. The sport's international governing body that made the ruling, the Russia-dominated International Boxing Association (IBA), was then stripped of the right to run the Paris Games competition over corruption and governance issues. But the row over the decision is believed to have played a considerable role in the decision by IOC president Thomas Bach to announce he will be resigning next year. Mr Pinsent said live on BBC Sport tonight: 'While Paris has been a huge success, there have been some very unfortunate headlines about boxing and the IOC in a sense asked for that because they stepped in and said we don't like the way boxing is being run we are going to make the rules for the Olympics and the inclusion of athletes boxing here.

The Parade of Champions is the joyful daily communal event which encapsulates why Paris has been the People's Olympics, writes IAN HERBERT

IAN HERBERT: They were queuing in their thousands around the Trocadero Gardens on Wednesday afternoon, waiting without complaint in the heat of the Avenue de New York and the Palais de Chaillot perimeter, for the chance to be a part of the daily communal event which encapsulates why these have been the People's Olympics . It's called the Parade of Champions, a free, largely unreported part of each Olympic day, which has been drawing capacity crowds of 13,000 in the late afternoon to what is known as Champions Park, set against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower. Most of those gathered on Wednesday in the ticketed seats or the 'pit' beside the walkway had not watched those champions compete, yet will now always be able to speak of how, in the Paris Olympic summer, they actually saw the great Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade, France's 3x3 basketball team, and two British divers - Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson - who were clearly having the time of their lives.

Team GB have enjoyed their best start to an Olympics in over a century and will look to extend that on day seven of the Paris Games. On Thursday, Team GB reached the 20th medal mark after success in the women's rowing four, in the women's double sculls and in the men's four. There were no golds claimed, however, but they'll look to put that to an end with the plethora of events on Friday.
SIR STEVE REDGRAVE: I had my doubts but they timed it to perfection! Team GB knew they had a fast finish and were absolutely incredible in the quadruple sculls

SIR STEVE REDGRAVE: As they said afterwards, they probably left it a little bit too late. Let's face it, if they left it a second later, they would not have won. But now you can say they timed it to perfection! The Netherlands did not lose it, they did not fold, they kept their form, they stuck to their tactics. But our girls won it. They were absolutely incredible. It is so difficult to come from behind like that in rowing. You can't see the boat in front of you, you can only sense it.
