British teenagers are the most unhappy in Europe, say researchers. And the problem among girls is getting worse at an alarming rate, the Children's Society warns in a report. The charity said its findings reveal a 'deeply worrying picture around wellbeing and happiness' among teenagers, adding: 'Alarm bells are ringing.' A quarter of British 15-year-olds report having poor life satisfaction, the highest rate amongst 27 European countries polled and almost 20 percentage points higher than in Holland. Among UK teenage girls, almost a third report low life satisfaction, compared to one in five across Europe, the charity found

The crackdown follows scandals in which the organised sexual exploitation of thousands of children in towns including Rotherham, Telford and Rochdale went unchecked - in some cases because officials feared being branded racist or fuelling the far Right. Experts were hired to track suspects down using 'cutting-edge intelligence', including their ethnicity details, Downing Street said at the time, to make sure they cannot 'evade justice because of cultural sensitivities'. Launching the Grooming Gangs Taskforce last year, Mr Sunak said: 'The safety of women and girls is paramount. On a visit to Essex Police Headquarters yesterday, Home Secretary James Cleverly (pictured) revealed its work had so far contributed to more than 550 arrests.
Strip-searching a child will require a parent or guardian to be informed and an officer of rank of inspector or higher to give authorisation under new police guidelines

The plans are aimed at ensuring the welfare and dignity of a child or vulnerable person while keeping police officers accountable for their actions, the Government said. The proposals come after the high-profile case of Child Q , a 15-year-old schoolgirl who was strip-searched in 2020 having been wrongly accused of possessing cannabis. The girl, who is black, was strip-searched while on her period with no appropriate adult present at a school in Hackney, east London. In the wake of that incident, a report by the Children's Commissioner published last year found that black children were up to six times more likely to be strip-searched by police.

Penned by respected paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass (inset), and four years in the making, the near 400 page report could overhaul one of the most controversial areas of modern medicine both in the UK. The report was sparked by a massive surge in Referrals for referrals to the NHS Gender Identity Development Service, hosted at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, which went from just under 250 in 2011/12 to more than 5,000 in 2021/22. At the same time practices at GIDS were coming under increasing scrutiny after former patients and whistleblowing staff claimed youngsters were being rushed onto medication like puberty blockers despite concerns over their use. This included Keira Bell (right) who previously took the clinic to the High Court, claiming she had not been challenged enough, before being prescribed puberty blockers at just 16.

According to a charity, families are still have to pay 'exorbitant amounts' on school uniforms

Despite reforms introduced last year to keep costs low, families are now having to pay "exorbitant amounts" on school uniforms. According to study by The Children's Society, parents of secondary school children are paying an average £422 per year on uniform and £287 per year. The charity, which polled 2,000 parents from around the UK in May, said that the rising costs were partly due to the fact that certain schools require branded items. The Education Act (Guidance on School Uniforms) came into force last fall. It only applies to England. Schools must ensure second-hand uniforms are available and keep branded items to a minimum under guidelines released after the Act was introduced. The Children's Society's chief executive, Mark Russell, said, "It's alarming that parents are now being required to spend exorbitant amounts on school uniforms."

Millions suffer from the agonizing illness that Henry VIII famously suffered from. They're still suffering from excruciating joint pain, but they're usually treated with over-the-counter painkillers. However, experts claim that increasing sex may help with the condition's root causes, which is the most common form of arthritis. It is believed that people will avoid boozing and red meat, according to Italian researchers. Both overindulging and overindulging can lead to the condition.

Harry Tyndall, a young man in his twenties, was both shocked and concerned to awakene one morning with a sharp shooting pain in his right foot. It was the worst pain ever - I thought I'd broken it.'
