Mark William Bedford (born 24 August 1961), also known as Bedders, is an English singer, songwriter, and composer.
Bedford came to prominence in the late 1970s as the bass guitarist for the English ska band Madness.
Early life
Mark Bedford was born in Islington, England, on August 24, 1961. At the age of 11, or 12, he began to buy music. He listened to music on the charts and North American artists, such as Neil Young, around this time. At the age of 13, he began playing bass guitar to help friends who wanted to play the guitar.
Bedford attended William Ellis School in Kentish Town and met members of the North London Invaders at one of their gigs. He was invited to a band rehearsal and was captivated by the musicianship on display. Bedford was friends with Invaders drummer Gary Dovey, but after a dispute with saxophonist Lee Thompson, Dovey left the band. Dan Woodgate was welcomed into the band as the final member of the then six-piece unit that became Madness.
Personal life
Bedford began a long-term friendship with Cressida in 1987. Alice (born 1993) and Olivia (born 1997).
Career
Bedford co-wrote one of the band's more reflective songs "One Better Day" with Suggs, despite being not a major songwriter in Madness. He was also responsible for co-writing "Not Home Today," "Disappear," "Return of the Los Palmas 7," "Deceives the Eye," "Stepping into Line," and "Maybe in Another Life" for the Los Palmas 7" as a writer. "Mummy's Boy" was the only song he wrote entirely on his own, and it appeared on the band's debut album "One Step Beyond..."
Bedford performed double bass on Robert Wyatt's recording of Elvis Costello's "Shipbuilding" in 1982.
Bedford played bass on Voice of the Beehive's second album, Kill Uncle, following Madness' break in 1986. On some tracks on the album, he performed double bass.
Terry Edwards, the ex-Higsons brass supremo, joined Butterfield 8 along with several other jazz players at the time. They've released a single "Watermelon Man" and an album called Blow! This was first published on the Sartorial Records label in 2001.
Bedford's stage appearances with Madness became more sporadic after 2009; he did not tour with the band in Australia in the first half of that year, but he did appear on the band's album The Liberty of Norton Folgate released in May. "It's like the Eagles song ['Hotel California,'] Suggs said. You can check out at any time you like, but you can't leave...A lot of freedom is available to help people be who they want to be and do what they want.

In 2013, the Lee Thompson Ska Orchestra performed The Benevolence of Sister Mary Ignatius. They released a single "Fu Man Chu" starring Bitty McLean from this album, and they introduced their second single "Bangarang" starring Dawn Penn and Sharon Shannon in February 2014.
