Marcus Maye, the NFL's safety specialist for the New Orleans Saints, has been suspended for three games by the league for drug use. According to the NFL, the 30-year-old was suspended for breaching its drug policy. The former New York Jet has been suspended without compensation. Following their Week 5 game against the New England Patriots, Maye is eligible to return to the Saints' active roster on October 9.

Maye's detention came after an investigation into an incident that reportedly occurred in Metairie, LA, on August 29. He was arrested early Thursday morning for aggravated assault with a rifle. Since posting a $30,000 bond, the 29-year-old was released from jail. Maye was arrested at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna, LA. In March, Maye agreed to a three-year, $28.5 million contract with the Saints in a free agency, which also included a $6 million signing bonus and $14.5 million.
