Mantas Kalnietis (born 6 September 1986) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player for Lokomotiv Kuban of the VTB United League.

He is also a member of the Lithuanian national basketball team.

He likes the point guard position but is also able to serve as a firearms guard.

Early years

Kalnietis spent two and a half years with the LKKA-algiris. In his second season, he had 17.7 points and 4.3 assists.

Professional career

Kalnietis made his pro debut in February 2006 with the algiris Kaunas. In the EuroLeague, he scored 6.8 points on a 66% shooting.

Kalnietis was instrumental in the success of the algiris in 2008, two Lithuanian League titles in 2007, 2008, and two Lithuanian Cups in 2007 and 2008. He coached the team to the 2007 ULEB Summer League championship, where he was named MVP.

In 2006 and 2008, he competed at the Reebok Eurocamp in Treviso.

Kalnietis had a breakout season in 2008-09, scoring 11.3 points in the Lithuanian League and 3.0 assists in the EuroLeague. In a loss against Montepaschi Siena on December 10, 2008, he scored a career-high 20 points.

In June 2009, Kalnietis agreed to a three-year deal with Benetton Treviso. However, since he had another one-year contract with algiris Kaunas, the FIBA arbiter's decided he belonged to algiris.' He signed a three-year deal with his hometown club, Algiris Kaunas, on December 27, 2010. However, he revealed in October 2012 that he was interested in playing in Russia's Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar for the first time. He began a three-year deal with the team on October 5th. Kalnietis was named Lithuanian Basketball Player of the Year on December 18, 2013; he was named Lithuanian Basketball Player of the Year. On May 27, 2015, he left Lokomotiv for the second time.

He joined the Indiana Pacers in the 2015 NBA Summer League in July 2015. He returned to algiris Kaunas' on July 17, 2015, with a one-year deal. On January 23, 2016, he left Algiris and signed a 1.5-year deal with Olimpia Milano.

Kalnietis was signed to ASVEL, the French LNB Pro A, on July 24, 2018.

Kalnietis' return to PBC Kuban in 2019 was a result of his participation in PBC Lokomotiv Kuban. Kalnietis scored 11 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, dished out 17 assists, and tied for the first time in a single game in all-time.

He joined algiris Kaunas' two-year contract on June 21, 2021, where his career had begun.

National team career

Kalnietis was appointed as point guard for the Lithuanian national basketball team, which finished seventh in the 2006 FIBA World Championship. He had 6.0 points and 2.8 assists. He also competed in the 2010 FIBA World Championships as a starter and received a bronze medal. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he appeared in seven games for Lithuania, averaging 5.5 points. During EuroBasket 2013, he led Lithuania's national team to silver medals, averaging 12.1 points and 5 assists per game (the tournament's assist leader). Due to a clavicular injury, he missed the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, but he returned to the national team in Eurobasket 2015. Milo Teodosi set a new single-game record of 13 assists during the same championship on September 7th against the Belgian national team, but only later tied for the same record. In 2015, the Lithuanian national team won their second straight silver medal, and Kalnietis was once more the tournament's top assister, with an average of 7.8 assists per game. In addition, he gave out 70 assists in total, the all-time record of assists for a single EuroBasket. Kalnietis was also the top assists leader in EuroBasket 2017, averaging 7.2 per game.
