Manolo Cardona Molano (born Manuel Julián Cardona Molano, 1977) is a Colombian actor.

Personal life

Cardona was born in Popayán, Colombia, on April 25, 1977. Cardona's family called him "Manolo" for his age, which later became his stage name. When he was eighteen to study finance and international relations, he moved to Cali, Colombia, but later moved to Spain to film. Nancy Molano, Manolo's mother, is a psychologist, baker, and astrologer. Enrique Javier Cardona's father, a politician, was mayor of Popayán and was anarchist. Cardona has three brothers and one sister. Football (soccer) is one of his favorite pastimes.

Career

Cardona started modeling at an early age after his elder brother introduced him to the modeling company, where he landed his first job. He shot his first television commercial and began modeling for television commercials, photography, and runways for several companies in Colombia at the age of 14. When Cardona was eighteen, he began his acting career on Padres e Hijos, a Colombian television series in which he appeared for three years. In 1998, he became the first male lead in the television soap opera Carolina Barrantes. He appeared in POR qué Diablos, a year after, portraying a young man who joins a drug company in order to avenge his friend's death. Amor a Mil, a Colombia soap opera, appeared later in 2001. He signed exclusive contracts with Telemundo and Argos Comunicación in 2002, and a year later, in Ladrón de Corazones, a man who returns to Mexico after ten years to venge his father's death and declare his name. He was the host of Telemundo's Spanish translation of Temptation Island. On the Mexican television show The Sebastián was also a member of Sebastián. The film Rosario Tijeras, Cardona's big-screen debut, was released in Colombia in 2005. The film was based on Jorge Franco's book of the same name. Cardona appeared on Framo Tijeras (playing Rosario Tijeras) and Unax Ugalde, and Emilio Maille directed him. The film was nominated for the Goya Award for best foreign film. The film made its North American premiere at the American Film Institute Festival in Hollywood in 2005.

He appeared in the film La mujer de mi hermano opposite Bárbara Mori and Christian Meier, which was released in the United States in 2006. He completed filming "Madrid-Mexico" with director Enrique Renteria in 2006.

Cardona returned to work for Telemundo and Argos on the Telemundo soap opera project Marina, replacing Mauricio Ochmann as Ricardo after two years on the Costamundo soap opera production Marina. In Acapulco, Mexico, the soap opera was shot.

In Boston's Back Bay Events Center, Cardona was given the "Latin Pride Award" on September 27, 2007. The award recognizes Hispanics from various fields and is a publication of the Latin Pride Magazine. Cardona appeared in the 2008 Disney film Beverly Hills Chihua.

Cardona was in an El Cartel de los Sapos series on Caracol TV in 2008, where he appeared as a drug dealer. The series was shot in Miami, New York, Colombia, Panamá, and Madrid. The series was followed by a film of the same name. The series and film were based on a book by Andres Lopes alias Florecita, who wrote the book while in jail. The film was produced at the Los Angeles Screenings and the series premiered in Colombia in 2008. Cardona, Karen Martinez, Diego Cadavid, and Robinson Diaz will be the star of a series of 40 episodes on Caracol TV. On June 5, 2008, Caracol TV premiered the series, which continued until October 2008. Since it premiered in July 2008, El Cartel was the highest-rated program on Colombian television. When it premiered on Telemundo in December 2008, it was the highest rated show in the network's history.

Cardona was a principal participant in Undertow (Spanish name Contracorriente) in Peru in November 2008. Cardona plays Santiago, a gay painter who arrives in a small town and falls in love with Miguel, a married fisherman played by Cristian Mercado who is torn between his passion for Santiago and his love for his pregnant wife Mariela (Tatiana Astengo). Dynamo Capital (Colombia) and Calvo Films (Peru) produced the film, and Javier Fuentes-León directed it. Contracorriente debuted at the San Sebastian Film Festival on September 23, 2010. The film also received the Audience Award for World Cinema Drama at the Sundance Film Festival.

In the second season of the series, Cardona appeared in an episode of Tiempo Final titled "La entrega," as well as co-starring Katarina Sacht. Tiempo Final was a reimagining of the Chilean series of the same name and broadcast on Fox.

In 2009, he appeared in La Ultima Muerte alongside Kuno Becker. In Mexico, the film premiered in November 2009.

Cardona appeared on Telecinco in the third season of Spain's Sin tetas no hay paraiso. Martin La Roca, a policeman, appeared in it. In fall 2010, the series premiered in Spain.

Risas Inocentes (Innocent Laughter) was created and directed by his brother Juan, who produced and directed a short film. The short premiered in Colombia in 2009 and was produced by his company "11:11 (onceonce) films).

He starred in Netflix's Who Killed Sara?

Alex Guzmán, the main character of the story, appears in this film. His 11:11 Film company has also signed a deal with Viacom International Studios.
