Maggie Dixon Life

Margaret Dixon (May 9, 1977-2006) was an American women's basketball coach.

Life

Dixon was born in North Hollywood, California, and he played basketball at Notre Dame High School. Dixon graduated with a bachelor's degree in history from the University of San Diego, where she competed for the women's basketball team in 1999. She served as team captain for her senior year and was named as the "Most Improved Player" in the annual survey. She took up coaching after an unsuccessful attempt to join the WNBA Los Angeles Sparks, at the behest of her older brother. Dixon served as an assistant coach at DePaul University from 2001 to 2005 under Doug Bruno's leadership from one season as head of operations.

Dixon was hired as the women's basketball coach of the United States Military Academy in 2005, just 11 days before the 2005–2006 season. They shocked the college basketball world by winning the Patriot League conference tournament this year, going 20-11-11; they lost to the University of Tennessee, 102–54, in their first year; she took them to the 2006 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament as a 15 seed. It was the first NCAA tournament appearance for an Army basketball team.

Jamie Dixon, the head men's basketball coach at Texas Christian University, is her brother. The Dixons were the first brother-sister pair to compete in NCAA basketball tournaments the same year, as Jamie's Pittsburgh Panthers also qualified in the 2006 NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament. In the second round to Bradley, her brother lost.
