Holding a slim one-goal lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, Pittsburgh Penguins netminder Tristan Jarry took it into his own hands by scoring an empty-net goal to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2. Jarry's clincher is just the 17th goal credited to a goalie in NHL history. Three of those were scored by New Jersey Devils legend Martin Brodeur, while two others were scored by Philadelphia Flyers netminder Ron Hextal. Jarry is the fourth goalie to score in the last ten years and the 14th overall in the regular season. Linus Ullmark of Boston did it against Vancouver last season, the most recent. The chance for Jarry came late in the third period after the Lighting pulled Andrei Vasilevskiy for an extra attacker. Jarry was able to quickly corral it and fling it down ice toward the empty Lightning net when Tampa Bay dumped the puck into the zone.

As he received the league's award as coach of the year, Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery reflected on one of his lowest points in his career. On Monday night, Montgomery received the Jack Adams Award at the NHL Awards in Nashville and opened up to the audience about his long journey to get to this point. "My relationship with the Dallas Stars ended a half-year ago as a result of my heroin use,' he said during an emotional address. 'I had to rethink my habits and habits.' That has resulted in the success I live every day.

The two teams combined for seven third-period goals, three of which occurred in a four-minute span in the middle of the game.

Linus Ullmark went to play on ice with a few minutes to play, which isn't a good thing for hockey goaltenders. In this case, the Boston Bruins appreciated him more. After drawing a misconduct foul, Ullmark stopped 41 shots before escaping with 3:11 still on the field, and the Bruins defeated the Panthers 6-2 on Sunday, moving one game away from the second round of the playoffs.

Any concerns regarding the top-seeded Boston Bruins' readiness for the postseason were apparently answered in Sunrise, Florida, on Friday night. Taylor Hall had a goal and an assist, Linus Ullmark stopped 28 shots, and the Bruins defeated the Panthers 4-2 in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference first-round series on Friday night, following their upset loss to the Panthers in Game 2 on Friday night. Charlie Coyle, David Pastrnak, and Nick Foligno all had aims for Boston, who regained home-ice advantage and took a 2-1 lead in the series. Dmitry Orlov had two long outlet passes that later became Bruins assistants. Alex Lyon shot out 23 of 26 shots for Florida, the Pastrnak goal with 11:28 people chasing him and Florida sending Sergei Bobrovsky. And that means the Panthers will have to make a big decision before Game 4 in Sunrise on Sunday afternoon.

Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins decided that the time was perfect for him to score in a game for the franchise's first goalie. The Canucks had an empty net in order to have an extra skater on the ice to try and score a goal late in a 2-1 match against the Vancouver Canucks. Ullmark corralled the puck and shot over three skaters' heads and down the ice, with the puck falling into the net after a deflection off skater Brock Boeser.
