To the social media platform iNaturalist, a volunteer 'citizen-scientist' shared the first picture of this new scorpion (above left). Despite the heavy toll of local oil exploration and cattle grazing operations, the scorpion has survived in San Joaquin Desert. 'They were in a very unusual location,' one researcher said
