Inmates who donate their organs and bone marrow should receive reduced sentences of up to a year, according to Massachusetts state Democrats. Five state senators endorse the bill: Bud Williams, Shirley Arriaga, Judith Garcia, Russell Holmes, and Carlos Gonzales (bottom). However, some believe the bill raises ethical issues for the over 6,000 prisoners in Massachusetts jails who could risk their wellbeing for freedom. The new legislation requires the state to establish a five-member 'Bone Marrow and Organ Donation Committee,' with just one seat reserved for a prisoner's rights activist.
