Lance Loud Life

Alanson Russell "Lance" Loud (June 26, 1951 – December 22, 2001) was an American television personality, magazine columnist, and a new wave rock-n-roll performer.

Loud is best known for his appearance in An American Family, a pioneer reality television series that starred him as a hero in the gay community, in 1973.

Early life

Loud was born in La Jolla, California, in 1951, while his father was serving in the US Navy. He spent his early childhood in Eugene, Oregon, with his four siblings, as well as later childhood and adolescence in Santa Barbara, California. Loud discovered Andy Warhol, The Factory, and The Velvet Underground during his youth. He became penpals with Warhol later this year.

Loud brought some friends and family members to Haight-Ashbury to learn about the San Francisco neighborhood's rich cultural scene as a child. He hopped on a taxi to Altamont Raceway Park to attend the Altamont Free Concert, later the subject of the documentary Gimme Shelter.
