Kyle Allen (born March 8, 1996) is an American football quarterback for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL).
He played college football for the Texas A&M Aggies and Houston Cougars. During his rookie season in 2018, Allen was the Panthers third string quarterback behind starter Cam Newton and backup Taylor Heinicke before starting the final game of the season following injuries to both.
Allen became the Panthers starter for the 2019 season following a season-ending injury to Newton after only two games.
High school career
Allen attended Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. Mark Andrews, a Baltimore Ravens tight end, was teammates. He passed for over 8,000 yards and had 86 passing touchdowns during his high school career. Allen, a five-star recruiter for Rivals.com, was named as the best pro-style quarterback and seventh best player overall in his class. He was highly recruited out of high school, receiving invitations from several colleges to play college football before committing to Texas A&M in June 2013. College career
Allen, a true freshman in 2014, spent time with Kenny Hill before the season for the starting quarterback job. Hill will do well with Allen's return to action as a backup. The team had lost three games in a row in October, and Allen took the starting quarterback position.
He made his first appearance with the Aggies on September 14, 2014, throwing 12/16 completions for 122 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception. In a 41-38 victory, he led the Aggies past the Tigers by throwing for 277 yards and 4 touchdowns along with one interceptor, putting A&M back in the Top 25 and putting A&M back in the top 25.

Allen said he had an AC sprain in his throwing arm against Alabama, but that the coaching staff was strong enough to face Ole Miss. Allen would then miss out on the 35–28 victory over South Carolina and the Aggies' loss to Auburn (26–10). Murray will play in both of those games as well as a home win over Western Carolina. Allen will return as the starter on Nov. 21, a 25-0 win over Vanderbilt. In a 7-19 loss to LSU, he played his last game with the Aggies on November 28, 2015, going 15/28 for 161 yards and a touchdown. He completed 160/283 passes for 2,210 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions in his second year. Allen also ran for 65 yards and two touchdowns.
Allen confirmed that he would be moving from Texas A&M on December 10, 2015. Due to his suspension, he was unable to participate in the Aggies' Music City bowl game. Professional career
Allen was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Carolina Panthers on April 28, 2018. He was suspended on September 1, 2018, and the Panthers' practice squad was activated the next day. On September 10, 2018. On October 30, 2018, he was recalled to the Panthers practice squad. Allen was promoted to the active roster on December 20, 2018 to back up back up Taylor Heinicke, after starter Cam Newton was barred from the season. On December 23, 2018, he made his NFL debut against the Atlanta Falcons as a result of an injured Heinicke's going 4-of-4 with 38 yards in his two drives before Heinicke returned to the game at the two-minute warning of the first half. Allen will get his first NFL appearance against the New Orleans Saints in the last game of the season. He finished 16-of-27 with 228 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown. Garrett Gilbert was forced to leave early in the fourth quarter due to a back injury early in the fourth quarter.
Allen made his first appearance of the season against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. As the Panthers defeated 38-20, Allen threw for 261 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. In the 16–10 victory over the Houston Texans, he went 24-of-34 for 232 passing yards. He was a leader with the Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in victories over the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buccaneers over the course of two weeks. He threw nine touchdown passes with zero interceptions and five victories in all during his first five games. Allen threw for 158 yards and three interceptions against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8 as the Panthers defeated the 49ers 51-13. The Panthers announced that Allen would be suspended for rookie quarterback Will Grier against the Indianapolis Colts on December 16, 2019, just one day before the game. Allen played in Week 17 against the New Orleans Saints during the second quarter after Grier was forced to leave the game due to a foot injury. Allen lost by 295 yards and an interception in the 42–10 loss. Allen played in 13 games and scored 3,322 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions during the 2019 season.
Allen was drafted by the Washington Football Team in the 2020 NFL Draft on March 24, 2020, for a fifth-round pick. The trade reunited him with former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera, who was hired as Washington's new head coach this season. After Dwayne Haskins was suspended prior to their Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams, Allen was named the starter. He ran for a touchdown against the Rams before missing the remainder of the game after being hit by Jalen Ramsey in the second quarter. On March 10, 2021, Washington issued an exclusive-rights free agent tender on Allen, which he signed on March 18. Allen was beaten by the Dallas Cowboys in Week 14 for the first time in 2021, despite Taylor Heinicke's absence from the game in the fourth quarter due to injury. Allen completed four out of nine pass attempts for 52 yards, eleven rushing yards, and one lost fumble recovered by Dallas.
