Every at-bat from the best player in baseball is must-see television. And with a national audience, Shohei Ohtani made no exception on Sunday night. For his third at-bat of the game, Ohtani stepped into the batter's box to face Kutter Crawford.  Crawford had just allowed a home run to Austin Barnes and was looking to get back his mojo against Ohtani.

Two Yankees clash with Reds pitchers during national anthem on Fourth of July... but here's why move backfires

The Cincinnati Reds not only completed a three-game sweep of the floundering New York Yankees in the Bronx on Thursday. Manger David Bell's club also won the national anthem. For five minutes ahead of Thursday's matinee, Reds hurlers Graham Ashcraft and Carson Spiers had what's become known as an 'anthem standoff' with the Yankees' Ian Hamilton and Cody Poteet. Basically, it's a game of chicken to see who can linger on the field the longest following the playing of The Star-Spangled Banner. One 2023 standoff between Boston's Kutter Crawford and Philadelphia's Matt Strahm lasted so long that umpires tossed both players, who were ultimately fined by the league.

Matt Strahm, the Red Sox's reliever, and Phillies' southpaw, was fined for an anthem standoff

In a strange scene in Philadelphia on Saturday, an impromptu standoff between Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford and a former teammate, Phillies southpaw Matt Strahm, ended with both players being ejected. The crime: Both relief pitchers refused to leave the field after the national anthem. It's not unprecedented in sports, particularly baseball, to see players lingering after The Star-Spangled Banner in a childish brawl to see who will be the last player standing on the field. Umpires are in a rush to get everyone into their respective dugouts only now, with the introduction of Major League Baseball's latest pitch clock. Both Crawford and Strahm were warned, ejected, and later fined for failing to follow their teammates off the Citizens Bank Park track on Saturday, as a result. An MLB spokesman declined to tell DailyMail.com precisely how much money the players were fined on Monday.
