After successfully suing the county clerk who refused to give them a marriage license, Kim Davis will have to pay $260,000 to the attorneys representing David Ermold and Moore for their fees and expenses. Attorneys for Davis had argued that the fees and charges requested by David Ermold and David Moore's attorneys were excessive. According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, U.S. District Judge David L. Bunning disagreed with Davis' decision and said the men must pay since they prevailed in their case. Davis drew international notice when she was briefly jailed in 2015 for refusing to obtain the licenses of Ermold and Moore.

Davis was also sued by James Yates and Will Smith (bottom right), but no money was given. Davis stopped issuing all marriage licenses a day after the Supreme Court approved gay marriage in 2015 under Obergefell v. Hodges.
