Key players such as Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson have aged and are increasingly absent, while others like Fabian Schar and Dan Burn are sound performers but will turn 33 this season.

CRAIG HOPE: Newcastle are set to be without Kieran Trippier for at least a few weeks, Newcastle Confidential can exclusively reveal. The defender was replaced in the 71st minute of Saturday's goalless draw at Everton but there was no confirmation of an injury after the game. However, we understand that a hamstring strain will keep Trippier out of next weekend's visit of Brighton. The issue is not thought to be too serious and the full prognosis is not yet known, but he is likely to be missing for a few weeks at least.

Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier's wife has reportedly moved 200 miles across the country to start a new life with their children.  Mother of three Charlotte, 35, has also removed her wedding ring just days after the England and Premier League footballer, 33, was spotted without his and the women he was seen partying with back in May was named.  Kieran was spotted partying with call center worker Frankie Carmichael, 27, was seen lifting up the blonde around his waist in a karaoke bar.

Rather, sources say Nickson will get his head down and work within a new structure and strategy being devised by Mitchell. We understand Nickson has been taking the necessary courses to become a sporting director himself, and he was being considered for a more prominent position at the club earlier this year. He was very well thought of by former co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi.

Kieran Tripper could yet still make a shock exit from Newcastle United, after reports in Turkey say the Magpies' right-back has agreed personal terms with Super Lig club, Eyupspor.  Speculation around a move away from St James' Park for Trippier has been rife this summer, and it's believed it could still happen despite the transfer window in the UK closing last Friday.  Like many other European clubs, the Turkish transfer window is still open for nearly two weeks, so any outgoing deal for the 33-year-old remains possible.

The Newcastle United defender, 33 called a halt to his England career following a tumultuous time off the field resulting in the end of his six-year marriage to Charlotte. Sources close to the footballer told MailOnline that they believe he partly took the decision to step away from the England set up in the hope that it would remove a 'layer of pressure' as he attempts to rebuild a new life without his wife. Kieran Trippier has retired from international football following a distinguished England career. The Newcastle right back has taken the decision to call time on his England tenure after helping the national side to the Euro 2024 final earlier this summer.  In a statement on Instagram, Trippier wrote: 'I never thought as a young lad from Bury that I would play for my country let alone achieve 54 caps.

EXCLUSIVE BY CRAIG HOPE: Bruno Guimaraes is Newcastle United's new team captain and is now almost certain to remain at the club, Mail Sport can reveal. The Brazilian wore the armband in a competitive fixture for the first time versus Southampton on Saturday, with captain Jamaal Lascelles injured and vice-captain Kieran Trippier on the bench. Trippier has led out the team during the majority of matches since arriving from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, but that will now be the duty of Guimaraes.

Shaw has not started a game since February - a total of 148 days - due to a hamstring injury but has made his return action here in Germany, playing 87 minutes in two substitute appearances. But for England's first ever major tournament on foreign soil, head coach Southgate has handed Shaw his full return to action in place of Kieran Trippier - who has started all of the games here in Germany on the left side of defence.

Shaw has featured from the bench in England's last two games after recovering from injury. There have been calls for the left-back to start against Spain, but Mail Sport's information is that Kieran Trippier will retain the left wing-back slot from the start. Manchester United co-owner Ratcliffe had a special message for his full-back, who had not played a game since February before the quarter-finals against Switzerland

Harry Kane has declared himself fit for one of the biggest clashes in England's history on Sunday night. The captain suffered a foot issue in winning the penalty that saw his team equalise against the Netherlands in Wednesday's semi-final. Head coach Gareth Southgate said the blow contributed to his decision to substitute Kane in the euphoric win. But when asked by reporters about his availability for the final, Kane said: 'I'm all good.'
