I lost a hero today. We all did. The one true Batman - the voice I’ll always hear in my head whenever I read or write a Batman comic book - has passed. I’ll miss you forever, realkevinconroy6. You had us all from the first episodes of #batmantheanimatedseries with a voice so commanding yet so comforting as well. Yours was the soothing voice of a hero that no criminal would ever know; all the bad guys ever heard were the grunts you’d emit while beating them senseless. As a hardcore fan, naturally I sought out Kevin so I could work with him - so I got to make pretend with Batman in The jayandsilentbob Super Groovy Cartoon Movie, in the masters series, and even in live action films, with his cameo in yogahosers. And on an episode of Fat Man on Batman, Kevin reassured me I was doing the right thing with my career - in the Batman voice. We’d just been texting on October 16th about him doing a show with me at smodcastlecinemas in 2023 (where we were gonna watch/discuss his 5 favorite BTAS eps). I ended the exchange with a ❤️ - because I absolutely loved #kevinconroy. I was lucky to have him as my Batman for so long; I was luckier to have known him at all. “What do we say to the god of death?” We say “Let’s swap hats!” Winter was coming hard last night at smodcastlecinemas when Bayonne boy and legendary author #georgerrmartin held court at the Castle for a sold out show! All Atlantic Highlanders in attendance were treated to two hours of stories about rearranging words for a living and telling the lies that tell the truths! The Garden Staters in the audience must’ve felt a pull of pride when they realized that the pop cultural phenomenon known as gameofthrones was dreamed up by a kid from Jersey! Afterwards, the Castle Keeper Crew took George for some food as a thanks for all the insight (and for signing 200 books)! Next up at Smodcastle: the first meeting of the Merry Marvel Movie Society a week from today when blackpanther premieres! On Black Friday, it’s the Zack and Miri-thon! The smodcastlecinemas lobby was beautified this morning when we hung a magnificent mural made by our resident Rembrandt, thedarknatereturns! Based on an idea by Castle Keeper odblues7, the piece is entitled “From Highlands to Hollywood” and features famous folks who hail from the great Garden State, as well as a collection of characters from across the #Askewniverse that I created! This lobby art is meant to inspire every kid (and grownup) who comes to watch a movie, reminding them that they’re seeing stars whose journey to their Hollywood dreams started in the same state! Nate understood the assignment exactly, outdoing himself with this marvelous masterpiece! Can you name every famous face he included? Thanks to #SignBrothers in Matawan for printing and hanging it all up today!
