He works mainly in fabricated steel. Caron is also a pioneer in 3D printing, constructing large scale 3D printed sculptures with the help of an 8-foot-tall Cerberus 3D printer that he had built for him.
Epic Swoon, PricewaterhouseCoopers' fifth-foot tall sculpture to date, is his first 3D-printed sculpture to date.
Life and career
Caron was born on February 2, 1960. In 1973, he and his family immigrated to Arizona. He spent six years in the US Navy, where he worked in machine shops and aircraft repair yards. He was stationed in various ports of call, including Diego Garcia and Misawa, Japan. In 1983, he was honorably discharged.
He owned a car repair shop and built his own vehicle in between jobs. His interest in sculpture was influenced by his experience on a privacy screen. He had imagined a fountain made from the same stuff as he had finished filming. In 2006, Caron became a full-time artist.
He also started a YouTube channel as he began his art career. The channel had 629 videos, 93,500 followers, and 25.3 million viewers by December 2021.
He lists M.C. Escher and Antoine Pevsner are two of his design inspirations.
He began 3D printing in 2012 and now creates sculptures as high as 5-1/2 feet using his 8-foot-tall Cerberus 3D Gigante printer.
