CHRISTOPHER STEPHENS: What price Satisfaction? Somewhere in the vaults of a Swiss collector there's a Les Paul electric guitar purchased by Keith Richards in 1964 and played on the Stones' No. 1 hit. Estimates put the instrument's value at $1million minimum, though no one's sure how Keef came to part with the guitar, and the band's management say they'd like it back, please. Figures like that suggest the sheet-metal guitar investigated on Fake Or Fortune, rumoured to have belonged to Stones bandmate Ronnie Wood , could be worth more than even presenters Philip Mould and Fiona Bruce (seen on Thursday's episode with Chesney Hawkes) suspected.

You might expect a play about Mick Jagger and Keith Richards getting fitted up by the News Of The World in a 1960s drugs bust to centre on the Stones's front man and famously mind-expanded lead guitarist. And yet, you'd be wrong. It isn't even clear that Charlotte Jones's rowdy and entertaining new play, Redlands, is about the man who (eventually) got the rockers acquitted - one Michael Havers QC, later Attorney General. A major role for that other star of the Swinging Sixties, Marianne Faithfull, is less surprising.

One chain has achieved the next best thing by signing up the children of the notorious Nineties north London party group to promote its latest collection. Wild letters from teenage girls wanting to 'snog' and 'bed' the Rolling Stones have been found in an old suitace that belonged to Brian Jones and gone up for auction. Multi-instrumentalist Jones kept the 3,000 handwritten letters that were sent to him from crazed fans from across the world in 1964. At the time the youthful band had already had two number ones and were at the forefront of the 'British Invasion' of rock and pop in America. Jones was a founding member of the Stones alongside Keith Richards and Mick Jagger in 1962, but was dismissed in June 1969 after he developed alcohol and drug problems. Less than a month later, he died by drowning in a swimming pool in his East Sussex home. The battered travel trunk was found in the attic of another Jones property in Woodley, near Reading, and was full to the brim with the fan mail. Some of the correspondence was polite and reserved, with one girl informing the guitarist she had 'dropped the Beatles ' for the Stones because their hair wasn't long enough. But a lot of the letters were sent from lustful teenagers expressing their carnal desires for the band.

Sir Mick Jagger has signed up as a new frontman for a group of campaigners fighting against proposals for One Battersea Bridge, a 34-­storey tower block of flats in south-west London. The £100 million tower will not only loom over Battersea, it will cloud the river view from Chelsea, not least for the well-heeled folk on the opposite, north bank only a few hundred yards away. Keith Richards left Anita Pallenberg feeling 'betrayed' when he killed off her acting career after she cheated on him with Mick Jagger. Mick Jagger's lookalike son Deveraux proved he's got his father's moves as he danced like nobody was watching during his Texas tour on Sunday. The youngest son of the rock star, seven, let loose in the audience front of stage as his famous father performed on stage with his Rolling Stones bandmates Ronnie Wood, 76, and Keith Richards, 80.

Rolling Stones performed the first night of the US leg of their tour in Texas on Sunday night as they show no signs of slowing down.   The rockers gave an energetic performance at Houston's NRG Stadium and have now been touring for more than 60 years. Lead singer Mick Jagger and lead guitarist Keith Richards are both now aged 80, and guitarist Ronnie Wood is aged 76. 

As The Rolling Stones prepare to head out on their sold out tour, it seems the legendary rock band could be joined by an iconic popstar while out on the road.

For the record, The Rolling Stones company earned at least $180 million (£142 million) over nine years, but paid tax amounts to less than 1% of the total. According to statistics published by the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, Promogroup BV, the Stones' holding company, has been quietly reaping millions since 2013. The directors' most recent reports, released in March this year, state that there were'receivables' in the year from January to December 2021, totaling $25 million (£20 million). They paid tax on a $213,000 (£168,000) basis during that time. They paid $75,000 (£60,000) in taxes in the previous year, but the royalties, which were then counted as assets, were later reported as liabilities of $33 million (£26 million).
