CALUM CROWE AT THE RENAISSSANCE: Rory McIlroy insists Europe's Ryder Cup players were in 'disbelief' when Keegan Bradley was announced as the new captain of the United States. McIlroy has also stressed that it will be impossible for Bradley to operate as a player-captain, should he qualify for the US team next year at Bethpage Black. It was confirmed earlier this week that the 38-year-old will lead the Americans, making him the youngest captain since Arnold Palmer way back in the 1960s.

Xander Schauffele admits he was surprised to learn of Keegan Bradley's appointment as the new Ryder Cup captain for Team USA. Tiger Woods has revealed that he turned down the chance to captain Team USA in the 2025 Ryder Cup because he does not have the time. But the 15-time major winner insists he is open to taking on the role in the future. Keegan Bradley was this week named the US captain for the 2025 match in New York. 'With my new responsibilities to the Tour and time commitments involved, I felt like I would not be able to commit the time to Team USA and the players required as a captain,' Woods said in a statement.

'It could be anywhere from two to 10, who knows,' Young answered when asked how far back he thought he could be Sunday. Finally, at 8:35pm, Young got his answer: Five. Young may have set the blistering pace but four hours after he began his conquest of TPC River Highlands, the leaders were quick out of the gate and it was neck and neck… and neck and neck and neck.

ISABEL BALDWIN AT TPC RIVER HIGHLANDS: Collin Morikawa predicted the scoring would only get lower at The Travelers Championship over the weekend. On Saturday, Cameron Young proved him right.  Young blitzed around TPC River Highlands during round three of the final signature event of the season, shooting an 11-under 59 to rocket his way up the leaderboard and tie Tom Kim's overnight lead of 13-under.  This year's Travelers was already set to be a wild shootout but with Young's 59 already in the clubhouse, it's now lethal as defending champion Keegan Bradley's winning 23-under lies in the firing line.  The dismantling of the Connecticut course earned the 27-year-old a coveted place in an exclusive club on the PGA Tour, joining only 12 other players to shoot a sub-60 round.

Kim revealed Thursday that his early birthday wish would have been a few more birdies during the opening round of The Travelers Championship. On Friday, that wish was granted. Kim celebrated his birthday by sealing the 36-hole lead of 13-under at the final no-cut, 71-player signature event of the PGA Tour season. Not a bad way to turn 22 but the revelry could yet get grander, if he can keep the party raging through the weekend. A second blemish-free trip around TPC River Highlands in the heat teed Kim up to unwrap the greatest gift of all come Sunday: A $3.6million check.

Scheffler grew up in Dallas and watched the Mavericks suffer defeat by Boston in this year's NBA finals. To rub salt in his wounds, the world No 1 is now preparing to play at the Travelers Championship - in New England.

Hours after images from his Kentucky arrest were made public, Scottie Scheffler walked into the clubhouse at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Ohio as the leader of the Memorial Tournament. Scheffler eagled the 15th hole and birdied the final hole of the day in order to build himself a three-shot lead.  Golf's world No. 1 is back on top of a PGA Tour leaderboard as Scheffler tries to earn his fifth win of the season.

Davis Riley used his winner's speech at the Charles Schwab Challenge to pay tribute to tragic PGA Tour star Grayson Murray, on a 'super sad day in the golf world.' Murray was competing in the same event, playing on Thursday and Friday, before tragically ending his own life on Saturday morning, as confirmed by his parents in a heart-wrenching statement. Riley went on to win the event in Texas - his first victory on the PGA Tour - and he used his time with the microphone to pay tribute to Murray on an emotional day. 

The World No. 1 was arrested in the early hours of May 17 before his second round of the US PGA Championship at Valhalla in Kentucky, for not following police orders during a pedestrian fatality investigation. The 27-year-old was booked on four charges, including second-degree assault of a police officer, which is a felony. Yet whispers around Valhalla over the remainder of the major championship suggested that they would be dropped, while top brass within the department reportedly believed the 'excessive' charges should be reduced.  Instead, however, Louisville Metro police chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel vowed to 'to respect the legal process' and 'let it play out' in a press conference Thursday morning, with Scheffler due to be arraigned in court next month. Despite his looming legal trouble, Scheffler was unruffled as he fired a perfect drive off the first tee.

Rory McIlroy's tee time for Thursday's first round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla has been set for 8:15 a.m. Eastern time at hole No 10. The Northern Irishman has been paired with Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose. Right before McIlroy tees off is the trio containing Tiger Woods at hole No 10 with an 8:04 a.m. start time. Woods is paired with Adam Scott and Keegan Bradley to start the four-day event in Kentucky.

Professionals have been split down the middle of the controversy, with some pleading for the R&A and United States Golf Association's involvement, while others have retaliated in indignation. But what does it mean for recreational golfers?

Balls will have to comply with specific testing conditions under the new rules, ensuring one struck at a speed of 125 miles per hour will not be allowed to travel beyond 320 yards.
