Kaleo Wassman Life

Kaleo Wassman (born January 6, 1978) is an American musician who appears as the lead singer and guitarist of reggae, dub bands Pepper and Sabotage Soundsystem.

Early life

Wassman was born in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii's Big Island. He began playing with fellow bandmembers and bassist Brett Bollinger and Yesod Williams in 1996. Since high school, the three of them have been friends and joined the band right after graduating. "Everyone went to college and we went to the bars," Kaleo said in an interview.

In 1999, Bret Bollinger and Yesod Williams, a member of his newly formed band, migrated to SoCal to pursue their passion in reggae music and be signed by a major label. Pepper was signed by Volcom Entertainment following the band's debut demo Give'n It in 2000. The band appeared in their first big show at the Warped Tour in 2001 after signing in 2000.

Wassman and his bandmates were able to record their first album under Volcom shortly after the Warped Tour. Less Than Jake and blink-182 producer Steve Kravac were assisting in this project. By early 2002, the album was finished, and Kona Town's first album Kona Town was released on March 26, 2002.

Wassman and Pepper's songs began to appear on various Volcom compilations as early as 1999 with Summer Sampler and The Early Poems Of. Wassman and Pepper went on a few tours after Volcom launched Kona Town in 2002 before returning to the studio. Pepper began touring with the likes of 311 and Snoop Dogg in 2004, which was followed by the Old followed in 2004.

Wassman and the band decided to leave Volcom and formed LAW Records, the band's own record label. Its first appearance in 2000 was a re-issue of their 2000 demo Give'n It's first appearance. In early 2006, a live DVD was released before Pepper's return to the studio album No Shame in 2006. After this Wassman and his bandmates' return to Slightly Stoopid and then appeared at the Warped Tour in 2007. Pepper returned to the studio and released Pink Crustaceans and Good Vibrations on July 22, 2008.

Kaleo has been married to Melanie Wassman for more than 15 years. When hanging gliding, they met, as Kaleo says, "midair, deep in the cut."

Remy "Dub" DeRochemont, a Kona surfer-musician, and Kaleo deBrunet began collaborating in 1999. The band has signed to Volcom Entertainment after releasing many EPs and demos, as well as performing several live shows. The Boto Machine Gun, Sabotage Soundsystem's seventeen track debut album, was released on February 17, 2009.
