Julianna Peña Career

Mixed martial arts career

Pea made her professional MMA debut in May 2009 after going 2–0 as an amateur. She has won four straight fights in the past, but she suffered her first defeat in April 2012 to Sarah Moras, a future Ultimate Fighter 18 cast member, in a 140-pound catchweight match. Just two months and a week after Pea was involved in an accident with a narcotic driver while walking in downtown Spokane, in which she was knocked unconscious and had a fractured nose. She returned to professional action in the flyweight division ten months after being barred from the bantamweight division and losing by unanimous decision.

Pepa was one of the fighters selected to compete on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate.

In the elimination battle to get into the house, Pea confronted Gina Mazany. She led the fight from early on, winning a convincing unanimous decision after two rounds.

Pea faced veteran and top-ten ranked Shayna Baszler in the first tournament fight in the house. This match-up between the two first female picks was chosen by Ronda Rousey. Baszler, who was highly ranked and more experienced, was widely regarded as the most favored. Pea came out hard in the second round after a back-and-forth first round in which Pea achieved successful boxing combinations and escaped several of Baszler's submission attempts, suffering greatly from strong knee strikes that staggered Baszler. The fight came to the ground, where Pea was able to return to a back mount and then triumphed via rear naked choke for perhaps the biggest upset victory of the season.

Pea faced Sarah Moras in the semifinals. The two competed in a professional match in 2012, with Pea losing after suffering an armbar injury which caused the doctor to stop the match between the second and third rounds. In the second round, Pea defeated the opponent by guillotine choke to redeem the loss.

In the finals on November 30, 2013, Pea met Jessica Rakoczy, the Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale champion. In the final seconds of the first round of the TUF 18 women's bantamweight champion, she won the fight via TKO and became the TUF 18 women's bantamweight champion.

On March 15, 2014, Pea was set to meet Jessica Andrade at UFC 171. However, Pea pulled out of the competition after suffering a right knee injury. The girl suffered the injury while training, which was later discovered to be, among other things, her ACL, MCL, LCL, and meniscus. Despite the severity of the injury, doctors have assured Pea that her right knee will recover to full fitness after surgery and rehabilitation. Pea was forced to miss out on action for the remainder of 2014.

At UFC Fight Night 63, Pea returned to face Milana Dudieva on April 4, 2015. In the first round, she defeated her in a TKO match. Peggy received her first Performance of the Night bonus award as a result of her win.

Pea Next will face Jessica Eye on October 3, 2015 at UFC 192. She was ruled unanimously by the woman who brought the fight.

On July 9, 2016, Pea met former title challenger Cat Zingano at UFC 200. She won the fight by a unanimous vote.

On January 28, 2017, Pea met Valentina Shevchenko at UFC on Fox 23. In the second round, she lost by armbar submission.

Pea revealed on October 14, 2017 that she was pregnant and would take an indefinite leave from the sport. She returned to UFC Fight Night 155, nearly two and a half years after her last fight, beating out injured Sara McMann, replacing an injured Sara McMann. She was the winner in the fight by unanimous decision.

Pepa was scheduled to face Aspen Laddd on March 28, 2020 at UFC on ESPN 8. However, Pea pulled out of the contest early March due to an injury.

At UFC on ESPN, Pea met Germaine de Randamie on October 4, 2020: Holm vs. Aldana. In round three, she lost by a guillotine choke.

On ABC 1 on ABC 1, Pea was supposed to meet Sara McMann on January 16, 2021 before being moved a week later to UFC 257 on January 24, 2021. In round three, Pea defeated the fight by submission.

On ESPN 24, Pea was scheduled to face Holly Holm on May 8, 2021. Holm was nevertheless compelled to pull out of the contest due to a gouty.

At UFC 265, Pea was scheduled to face Amanda Nunes in the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship on August 7, 2021. However, Nunes' COVID-19 antibody test came back on July 29, 2021. On December 11, 2021, the match was rescheduled to UFC 269. After a dominating round one from Nunes, Pea came back in the second round to win the fight and crown by rear-naked choke submission in what is regarded as one of the most exciting upsets in UFC history.

On February 5, 2022, it was revealed that Pepe and Nunes would be the coaches for The Ultimate Fighter 30, a television show that will feature contestants from the heavyweight and women's flyweight divisions.

On July 30, 2022, UFC Women's Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes rematch for the UFC Women's Bantamweight title took place. The Pesa lost by a unanimous decision.
