Tourists could soon be forced to pay to visit the ancient Calanais Standing Stones which inspired Outlander. Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is developing proposals for the future management of the site in the Western Isles. Producers of the hit TV show said the mythical Craigh na Dun in the TV series was 'inspired' by the stones, which has increased tourism to the area. Visitor numbers to the site have tripled to 150,000 visitors a year - up from 45,000 in 2019.
