When we were children, my brother and I used to compete to be the favourite child. As adults, it became something of a running joke: which one of us did Mum love more? Of course it was an unanswerable question - love isn't something you can measure out in pounds and ounces, or quantify. At least it wasn't until a recent study carried out in Finland attempted to do just that - and concluded that parental love trumps romantic love. Researchers measured brain activity when people were told to imagine stories that related to love - for pets, partners, strangers, friends, nature and children - and love for your kids apparently beats romantic love. But does it really? Well, not from where I'm standing it doesn't.
