Early years
Homer Harmon, Joy Patricia Harmon's daughter was born in Jackson Heights, New York, or Flushing, New York. In 1946, she and her family immigrated to Connecticut. She was a Miss Connecticut graduate who finished fourth in the 1957 Miss Connecticut competition.
Harmon modeled clothes in Fox News newsreels when she was three years old. She skipped two years in elementary school and graduated from Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut.
Personal life
Harmon was married to film editor and producer Jeff Gourson from 1968 to 2001, raising three children. A son used to work at Walt Disney Studios for a time. Aunt Joy's Cakes later opened in Burbank, California, where she later owned a bakery.
Career
Harmon's debut on stage at the Klein Memorial Theatre in Bridgeport, Connecticut, was in Pajama Tops. Susan Slept Here, she toured the United States in stock company productions, including The Marriage-Gote Gold Cadillac, The Solid Gold Cadillac, The Tender Trap, The Importance of Being Ernest. Harmon portrayed Betty Phillips in Make a Million (1958). Susan Slept Here (1961), an off-Broadway production, also appeared in an off-Broadway production.
Harmon was a contestant on Groucho Marx's television show You Bet Your Life (the Groucho Show during its last season) and later a regular on Marx's program Tell It to Groucho (credited as "Patty Harmon"). Gidget, Batman, and The Monkees were among the many 1960s television series she appeared on. Ardice, a blonde brunice in the Jack Lemmon film Under the Yum Yum Yum Tree in 1963, appeared in a cameo role. She appeared in the 1965-66 television soap opera Never Too Young, as Tony Dow's girlfriend.
