About

Among other things, Carlton Hotel and Mona Vale Homestead were among the many projects that were designed. Thirteen of his buildings were listed as part of the New Zealand Historic Sites Trust, but many of them were destroyed in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.

Before Fame

At the National Art Training School, he began studying Architecture at the age of 17. His first office was located in Cashel Street, New Zealand, but he soon moved to Hereford Street, where he remained from 1878 to 1916.

In 1887, he was made a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
