Ministers warn that the switch to electric vehicles would cost £9 billion in missed service by 2030

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 14, 2023
Experts expected that fuel duty receipts would decline by around this much as a result of the government's ban on the selling of new petrol and diesel cars in 2030. Electric cars (stock photo) are now exempt from road tax, which is expected to cost the public budget hundreds of millions of pounds more. Ministers warned that without new fees such as pay-per-mile road pricing, towns and cities around the country could become gridlocked. Ministers will have to decide whether or not they will introduce new road fares to plug the hole and what actually goes electric. The expert alert came at a hearing of the Lords' environment and climate change committee, which has launched an inquiry into electric vehicles (EVs) and whether the Government's 2030 ban is enforceable.

Despite an estimated decrease in the price cap, electricity bills for 7.2 million households this winter will cost more for 7.2 million households, according to an analysis

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 24, 2023
According to a Resolution Foundation study, the cost of electricity per unit is falling, but 7.2 million - or 53% of households - in England will invest more. That's partly because the £400 energy assistance payments made to all households by the government last year won't be available. In addition, the so-called daily'standing fee,' a flat fee paid to all users, will be higher. The study was released ahead of regulator Ofgem's announcement on the energy price cap level from October on Friday. As wholesale energy costs have come down, the cap on the per-unit cost of gas and electricity, which increased last year after Russia's takeover of Ukraine, is expected to decrease.
