Jonathan Ames Life

Jonathan Ames (born March 23, 1964) is an American writer who has written several books and comic memoirs, as well as the creator of two television series, Bored to Death (HBO) and Blunt Talk (STARZ).

He served as a columnist with the New York Press for many years and became known for self-deprecating stories of his sexual misadventures in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

He has had a long-awaited interest in boxing, appearing in the ring occasionally as "The Herring Wonder."His book, You Were Never Really Here," was adapted into a film starring Joaquin Phoenix.

It premiered at the 70th Cannes Film Festival in 2017 and was announced in the United States on April 6, 2018.

Early life

Ames, a New Jersey boy, attended Indian Hills High School. Ames earned an English degree from Princeton University in 1987 and wrote his senior thesis, "The Collected Writings of Alexander Vine." He also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction from Columbia University. He has been an infrequent faculty member of Columbia's The New School and the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
