Couldn't you afford an England shirt, Sir Keir? Labour leader is ridiculed after Angela Rayner posts a picture of him celebrating Three Lions' Euros win wearing a plain white top

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 16, 2024
Sir Keir Starmer has been ridiculed for not wearing an England shirt as he watched the Three Lions' 1-0 win against Serbia at a pub with Angela Rayner and two comedians. The Labour leader donned a plain white t-shirt, while his deputy, Ms Rayner, and comics Jon Richardson and Matt Forde, all wore England strips as they sat through the nervy clash in which Jude Bellingham's first-half goal proved to be the difference. Ms Rayner tweeted a selfie of the four of them watching the game, with the caption: 'Celebrating a vital win with the gaffer. Well done lads!' But many were quick to point out that Sir Keir was the only one not wearing an England kit, with one quipping: 'Couldn't Keir afford an England shirt?' Another made a hilarious reference to Sir Keir regularly bringing up that his father was a toolmaker. They wrote: 'His dad was a toolmaker not a tailor - what do you expect!'

How a cannibal, a cocaine user, three murderers, a xenomaniac, and a pornographer created the world's best dictionary

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 31, 2023
The Oxford English Dictionary was not created by a team of dons and professors, and it was actually the Wikipedia of its day, assembled by a huge army of ordinary people. Among a diverse cast of housewives, factory inspectors, engineers, social activists, and a slew of others, three murderers and at least four people of psychiatric institutions have been listed as contributors. Over a 36-year span from 1880 to 1915, James Murray, a generous and devoted family man who had left school at 14 with no formal training, arranged thousands of volunteers recruited globally by newspaper advertisements.

Kielder is the country's richest spot in the cash desert

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 4, 2023
Residents of this charming village, which is just three miles south of the English/Scottish border, must travel 18 miles to find the nearest free ATM machine at a Co-operative store in Bellingham. On the winding lanes, a return car ride can take two hours or more. Those who rely on public transportation face an even greater challenge. It's a challenge to get to a bank. Bellingham once had three branches - a Lloyds, Barclays, and TSB - but these have closed in recent years, leaving Kielders no choice but to travel to Hexham, 30 miles away, to find a branch.

On June 8, former publisher and motorsport journalist John Richardson, 74, was discovered dead alongside his 64-year-old wife Angela near their Goring Heath home in south Oxfordshire. Since investors began to pull out of a new space flight simulation service, the pair had turned a shotgun on themselves in the 100-acre woodland nestled behind their country house. After starting the fledgling business that needed £35 million to get off the ground, a coroner heard on Wednesday how the elderly couple had accumulated 'irredeemable debt.'

Following the Queen's death, Steve Irwin's family has been photographed for the first time since there have been calls for the late Crocodile Hunter to be featured on Australian money. The face of King Charles III, as well as other Australians, will be printed, but some Aussies believe that Irwin, who died in 2006 at the age of 44, is more deserving of being on the national currency. Terri Irwin, daughter Bindi, and son-in-law Chandler Powell were seen flying into Brisbane Airport on Monday following their annual pilgrimage to the Steve Irwin Reserve near Weipa in Far North Queensland.

After being fired by Washington State for refusing to give the COVID vaccine, Nick Rolovich wants $25 million

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 10, 2022
Since being suspended last year for refusing to get vaccinated against COVID-19, former Washington State football coach Nick Rolovich has filed a lawsuit against the university, charging $25 million for wrongful dismissal. According to the Seattle Times, the allegation was brought on behalf of Rolovich's Office of Risk Management on April 27. According to Brionna Aho, spokesperson for state Attorney General Bob Ferguson, such a characterization is a precondition for bringing a lawsuit against a state department. After a tort lawsuit is filed, a person must wait 60 days to sue. As of Wednesday, Aho said no lawsuit had been filed as of Wednesday. Brian Fahling of Kenmore, Rolovich's solicitor, did not return a phone call left at his Kenmore office on Wednesday. Rolovich has previously stated that he would take court action, alleging religious discrimination. Rolovich, who is Catholic, is a Jesuit. Governor Jay Inslee's provision, which mandates state employees to obtain the vaccine, was refused a religious exemption.
