Why must the BBC portray sociopathic Brink's-mat gangsters as nothing more than rogues?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
March 1, 2023
CHRISTOPHER STEVENS (Chester, a bloke), as my colleague Mervyn Hancock, was a big bloke in every sense - big, loud, 6ft 3in, and obliviously good-humoured. However, this heroic man was left red-faced and shaken after an encounter with John 'Goldfinger' Palmer, now a central figure in BBC1's crime drama The Goldfinger' Palmer. We learned that Palmer was running a timeshare scam in the early 1990s, when I was working at Bristol's morning paper, ripping off thousands of holidaymakers.

Michael Relton, a 50-year-old Surrey solicitor, was sentenced to 12 years in jail for his part in laundering and re-investing the proceeds of the huge £26 million Brink's-Mat bullion theft robbery on July 7, 1988. It seemed as he was led down the Old Bailey steps to the cells that it looked like a watershed. The machinations of this complicated case had occupied a substantial portion of my professional life as a crime reporter for nearly five years. The robbers, the chief handler, and now the crooked money men had been taken to court. Or so it seemed, the Relton trial had brought at least some degree of closure. In reality, the tale was far from over. This was just the start of the program, to Churchill.
The Brink's-Mat robbery: The home where the gang melted gold is up for rent is up for rent

Exclusive : In a secluded hamlet near Bath, looking at the Georgian pile nestled into the countryside, there are no hints that it has been underworld. However, it is also where John 'Goldfinger' Palmer, who was killed in an unsolved gangland murder in 2015, smelted bars of gold bullion stolen from a warehouse in one of Britain's biggest ever crimes. And although it has been extensively updated since, it is undeniably the house where he and wife Marnie (inset) were photographed after Palmer was barred from participating in the robbery in 1987. The Grade II-listed former coach house, according to the estate agent's website, is available to rent from April 2023. Now it can be rented for £5,000 per month.

Since his assassination in 2015, John Palmer's nine bedroom chateau in Normandy has been abandoned, but it is now up for auction for €650,000, or £578,000. According to The Mirror, the story was glorious for 15 years before the owner's murder.' The property is then abandoned, nature regains its rights, and a very possible suspicion that treasure has been hidden there gives rise to a 'gold rush' with wretched consequences for the area.

In the BBC dramatization of the £26 million Brink's-Mat robbery in 1983, the actress, 32, plays Marnie Palmer, wife of real life criminal John Palmer. The Bristol-born actor has been in a friendship with model and photographer El Wood since 2021, far removed from the small screen. On Wednesday, Stefanie and El attended a pre-Bafta film-makers dinner at Alfred Dunhill's Bourdon House in Mayfair, which was once home to the Duke of Westminster. Stefanie's gold wrap top highlighted her toned abs and a midi skirt, while the happy couple looked glamorous for the occasion.

RICHARD EDEN: While Nicola Horlick is struggling with the arduous grind of steering her latest venture Glentham Capital to success, Tim seems to have discovered his own Midas touch. Kenneth Noye, a M25 killer, is 'over the moon' with the BBC depiction of his homicide thug as a "working class hero."

Kenneth Noye, a road rage murderer, is 'over the moon' with the BBC's portrayal of his life of crime in last night's drama 'Gold' (Actor Jack Lowden appeared as Noye). Noye, 75, who appeared on the programme for the first time since it was broadcast (left and right), has told friends that he was content that the BBC had shown him to be more of a cheeky chappie rather than merely a cold-blooded murderer. Noye is said to have accessed and read the script for 'Gold' before transmission and was approving. According to one commentator, the drama turned the murderous thug Noye into BBC's new working class hero.' However, a friend of Noye who has also served time says, 'Kenny is over the moon.' He has always been portrayed as a 24/7 ruthless thug, but he wants people to understand that he has worked his time and lives his life quietly, and is in a loving union.'
Noye's gruesome tale turns into BBC's new working class hero

Not Jack-the-lads, but Christopher StEVENS. Not wide boys, not cheeky chappies, not villains with a heart of gold. And no twinkly working-class champions, in fact. Kenneth Noye and John Palmer, money launderers, were brutal, tuggish bullies who used abuse and coercion to fuel their insatisfaction with their limitless appetite, killing hundreds of people in the process. You might not know it from The Gold (BBC), a crime caper fantasy about the aftermath of the biggest armed heist in British history, the Brink's-Mat gold bullion robbery in November 1983.
'I felt a hand around my neck': How M25 killer Kenneth Noye was brought back to face justice
www.dailymail.co.uk,

Kenneth Noye, the gangster who recovered gold bullion from the Brink's-Mat robbery in 1983, never saw the undercover policemen who caught him after two years on the run. And he later failed to recognize the young woman gazing at him in a Cadiz, Spain. Danielle Cable, Stephen Cameron's surviving fiancee, was stabbed to death in a road rage attack on the M25. Since that fateful Sunday in May 1996, the notorious career criminal - who also fatally stabbed John Fordham as he did security work at Noye's home in Kent - had been escaping the police. (He was cleared of Fordham's murder in 1985 on the grounds of self-defense.)

Kenneth Noye escaped justice for so long by jettining off to Spain after the 1996 M25 'roadrage' crash, according to a new book. Noye was not expecting repercussions from this. He believed the man and his girlfriend were members of the travelling community and therefore were unlikely to go to the police for a fight. Anthony Francis, one of Noye's suspected aliases, was also registered in a false name.
