The incredible trans rights row dividing Ireland: Teacher sacked by his school for refusing to 'call a boy a girl' is jailed again - so, is he a hero for our times or a misguided fanatic?

Three years ago, Enoch Burke (left) was an otherwise ordinary history teacher from the sleepy Irish town of Castlebar. However, the ex-teacher (bottom inset) has found himself in the centre of Ireland's trans rights row, which began when he refused to refer to a transgender student's pronouns while working at Wilson's Hospital School in County Westmeath. This decision sparked a series of events which has led to Enoch spending over 400 days in Mountjoy prison - after he repeatedly showed up to his former school following his dismissal and telling staff he was there to do his job. Enoch's parents Shaun and Martina (top inset) and his nine siblings have vehemently supported him throughout the process - accusing the school of 'bowing to the alter of transgenderism' and facing legal woes of their own in the process. In June, the Irish High Court ordered Enoch's release from prison, which was partially due to the end of exam season and imminent school holidays. However, the former teacher (top right) was jailed for a third time yesterday after he violated his court order by stepping foot on school grounds again. Before he was bundled into the back of a Gardaí van, Enoch was filmed telling officers that he was 'not going to turn his back on his duty' to his students while his mother argued the school supporting transgender students was 'abusive'. Here FEMAIL delves into the trans rights row that has divided Ireland and shows no sign of resolution any time soon. Bottom right: Enoch's sister Ammi pictured being removed from a Court of Appeal hearing in March 2023.
Quiet Cornish cul-de-sac in battle with council over newly built house 'blocking out all their sunlight' and giving them 'shocking lack of privacy'

Cornish residents in a rural cul-de-sac are in a battle with the council over a newbuild came up so close to their homes it is 'blocking out all their sunlight' and giving them a 'shocking lack of privacy'. The offensive property is one of a new estate in St Erth but is the only one of the new houses which is directly behind a row of houses in Boscarnek, towering over a number of preexisting gardens. Farah Bell (left) said that since the house has sprung up, her own home has plummeted in value by £50,000, ridiculing the council's use of 'poverty' as a rationale for building the new homes.

QUENTIN LETTS: Paradise has, over the years, had many depictions. Renaissance painters such as Tintoretto and Botticini imagined angels and bearded hunks perching on clouds. Flemish master Jan Brueghel the Elder (1568-1625) envisaged a forest glade with tame animals. The Plains Of Heaven, by 19th-century English painter John Martin, shows an unspoilt plateau whose mountain lake is fed by a blue waterfall. Four centuries earlier, Dutch oddball Hieronymus Bosch saw heaven as a tunnel rising to a source of light, like some vast concrete culvert in the sky. In France the other day, I stumbled on another vision of Eden. After breakfast we had escaped the grime of Paris - a sorry place these days - and driven east for more than an hour.
Enoch Burke's father is found guilty of 'flinging female garda to ground' while judge slams sister's 'utterly appalling' behaviour during employment tribunal

Enoch Burke (left) has been at the centre of a trans right row in Ireland for over two years now - but he's not the only member of his family facing endless legal woes. In May 2022, the former history teacher told the headteacher at his school in County Westmeath that his Evangelical Christian beliefs meant he 'opposed transgenderism' and later criticised his boss' 'demand' to use the child's new name in front of staff and students. It sparked a chain of events that has led to him being jailed for repeatedly showing up at Wilson's Hospital School in County Westmeath after being sacked, and entering the staff room saying he was there to do his job. Enoch has spent over 300 days in Mountjoy Prison in Dublin and has no prospect of release because he refuses to comply with a court order to stay away from the school premises. Earlier this week, Enoch's sister Ammi (right) lost an unlawful dismissal appeal at the Court of Appeal and was criticised for her 'utterly appalling and egregious' behaviour during proceedings. Meanwhile, Enoch's father Sean (right inset) and brother Simeon (left inset) have also faced legal issues of their own in recent months - having passionately supported the teacher during various hearings in Dublin's Four Courts. Here FEMAIL delves into the Burke family's legal battles - as Enoch faces an indefinite jail sentence.
Family of Irish teacher jailed for refusing to 'call a boy a girl' face their own legal woes: Enoch Burke's brother has conviction for breach of the peace struck out - but his father will be tried for assaulting a police officer

He's been at the centre of a trans rights scandal in Ireland for the past two years - and now Enoch Burke's father and brother have become embroiled in their own legal battles. In May 2022, the history teacher (left) found himself in the centre of Ireland's culture wars after he refused to refer to a transitioning transgender student as 'they' rather than 'he'. Last month, he refused a High Court offer to spend Easter out of prison and accused the judge of colluding with the school. In recent months, Enoch's father (top right) and brother (bottom right) have faced legal issues of their own - after the family passionately supported the teacher during various hearings in Dublin's Four Courts.

A Florida bill is expected to make GPS tracking a third degree felony. Several government branches will soon be voted on the bill, which may go into operation on October 1. Anyone who tracks someone without their knowledge of their presence is punished for five years in jail and a $5,000 fine. Stalking through tracking devices is on the rise in the United States, which has resulted in violent crime and, in some cases, the person being tracked.

Mayor Brandon Johnson sluggishly blamed both the Biden Administration and Texas for his city's struggles to care for thousands of refugees. After being bused in from the US-Mexico border, particularly Texas, around 15,000 asylum seekers were crammed into shelters across the region, he said. Johnson revived his rivalry with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, calling his behavior "reckless and risky," but he also moaned about the lack of federal funding.

The female driver of a £80,000 Land Rover that crashed into an end-of-term party at a Wimbledon primary school on Monday, killing an eight-year-old girl and injuring sixteen others, including a baby. Year Three students at the £16,000-permation school had arrived with parents and teachers for a picnic shortly before 10 a.m. This morning, detectives will interview the woman in her forties. According to preliminary reports, she may have suffered a'medical attack' before the accident, such as a heart attack or seizure. Allerdings, she was only at a hospital for a brief time before being arrested on suspicion of causing death by unsafe driving and was taken into custody. Last night, Met Police removed her car from the scene on a flatbed truck for experiments. As 999 crews prepare for 5,000 emergency calls, ambulance is sent to those celebrating Coronation
www.dailymail.co.uk,

As they plan for a surge in 999 calls from people who are injured or missing in the crowd, London ambulance chiefs have asked royal revellers to remain safe during the Coronation. On a Saturday, there are usually around 4,000 calls, but it is forecasting over 5,000 as crowds descend on London for King Charles' big day. It is forecast that additional slips, bumps, and falls from the crowds will be welcome, as well as the danger of people forgetting to eat and drink enough water on the day. Dr. John Martin, the city's chief paramedic, said that although they were proud to play their part in the Coronation, the public could be aided in determining what was important by being prepared.
According to a union representative, it's the government's fault if people are killed during ambulance strikes
www.dailymail.co.uk,
December 20, 2022
Today, up to 10,000 ambulance employees will walk out in England and Wales as people are advised to use services 'wisely' and avoid calling 999 only in life-threatening situations. At least 750 army troops have been sent in to cover the ambulance service (bottom left). Christina McAnea (top) of Unison said she wanted the strike to be a wake-up call to the government. TalkTV host Tom Newton-Dunn asked her last night: 'If people die, whose fault is it tomorrow?' 'Absolutely the government's,' Ms McAnea said. They have been completely irresponsible. The only time they called me in for a meeting was today, the day before the strike, and it's completely irresponsible of them to start any kind of discussions or talks with us.' She also warned that 999 call handlers could go to war if the government doesn't agree to compromise. Ms McAnea said, "We haven't reached a decision yet about whether or not it will be long or dead, or what groups we should leave out; as an example, our road crews are coming out tomorrow. So there are those people who are out and about the ambulances, technicians, and the specialist paramedics who go out to deal with specific problems. They're the ones on strike tomorrow. We haven't done is move the control room staff out. So, the people who deal with the 999 calls will still be working tomorrow. They'll be extremely crowded as they'll be the ones who will be triaging all of the calls as they do every day. However, we could also exclude our 999 members.'
