Democrats in Massachusetts have been accused of spending $5million from a taxpayer-funded budget for private projects in their designated districts. House Speaker Ron Mariano, Majority Leader Michael Moran, Budget Chief Aaron Michlewitz and Representative Ann-Margaret Ferrante have accepted undisclosed earmarks that have been taken out of the state's $58billion budget. High level legislators are technically allowed to take undisclosed amounts of money for 'hand-picked' projects before other members and voters are made aware. One put $175,000 toward repairs for an ancient castle, while another gave $500,000 to a civic center.
