The brain injury occurred during a crash in the first round of Funny Car eliminations at the Virginia Nationals in June. Force's car had massive engine failure when crossing the finish line, causing his car to go across the center line and slam into the concrete guard before also hitting a wall.

NHRA drag racing great John Force has been moved out of neurological intensive care after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a fiery, 300-mph crash at the Virginia Nationals last month. The 75-year-old Force has been moved from neurological intensive care into acute neuro care at the hospital where he was transported by air ambulance on June 23, John Force Racing said Friday in a release. Force suffered a traumatic brain injury and other injuries, including a fractured sternum, in the crash during the first round of Funny Car eliminations.

NHRA great John Force remains hospitalized in intensive care after a fiery, 300-mph crash in the Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park on Sunday. John Force Racing said in a statement Monday night that the 75-year-old Force was still in a Virginia hospital and that doctors 'were moving slowly in assessing the extent of the injuries because of the intensity of the impact.' Force, 75, clocked in a 306.62mph win over Terry Haddock in the right lane at Virginia Motorsports Park before the engine of his PEAK Chevy Camaro exploded during his high-speed run. The explosion sent him across the track before he crashed into the left-side wall by the driver's compartment. The vehicle came off the concrete surface and across the track before touching the opposite wall.
