You Changed My Life, Cruz's sequel to A Very Special Love co-produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films, opened in February 2009. In the same year, the film's total theatrical income surpassed PHP 240.44 million and was ranked as the highest grossing Filipino film of all time. In mid-2009, he stepped away from his regular roles for Vilma Santos' more interesting, challenging venture in which he portrayed Luis Manzano's lover in the film In My Life. Cruz has been dubbed the "Box-Office King" for three years: in 2008 with One More Chance, 2008 with A Very Special Love, and in 2009 with You Changed My Life, the top-grossing film of his career until about six years later.
Miss You Like Crazy, Cruz's reunion film starring Love Team Bea Alonzo, was released in February 2010 as Star Cinema's post-office department's post-office offering, earning more than PHP 140 million in its seven-week run and second top Filipino movie of 2010.
