Officials in the town of Dennis have announced new measures at Mayflower Beach, Chapin Memorial Beach and Bayview Beach ahead of the Fourth of July. In past years, police have reported a dramatic spike in the amount of fighting, binge drinking and drug use on the stretches of sand. In the last three 4th of July holidays, police data showed that officers had to respond to over 1,200 calls for assistance at the beaches, which included 459 last year.

For the younger Maravich, it was a childhood dream to play for LSU, where his father set the men's NCAA Division I scoring record of 3,667 points between 1967 and 1970.

More than 30 arrests were made on Tuesday after an out-of-control group of partiers celebrated independence day and trashed Mayflower Beach, according to Dennis Police Department. A 'extraordinary' amount of garbage was left behind, including cans, broken glass, coolers, beach chairs, and contraband, was described by police. Following last year's disappointments at the Dennis beach, which featured similar problems for a large group of revellers, the town devised a scheme to prevent a mass gathering 'disaster.' Around 2,000 students and early 20-year-olds descended on the sand at dawn on Tuesday, and this operation proved to be ineffective.
