After hiding a sign for a private parking garage behind a tree...and then fining drivers who mistook it for a council plot, a parking company has been accused of running a 'entrapment scheme.'

After drivers were forced to pay fines for using a parking garage they didn't know was privately owned, a parking company was suspected of running a 'entrapment scheme.' The tiny private parking lot is quickly mistaken for a council one, according to drivers, as the sign (left with local councillor John Baker) is obscured behind a tree and is locating between two Milton Keynes City Council parking lots. The parking garage (right), which is operated by Parking Eye on behalf of the Tenpin bowling alley in the city center, does not have road markings or barriers at either entrance to distinguish it from the adjacent council parking lot.

Experts investigate why Whitehaven Harbour in Cumbria has turned orange

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 14, 2023
At the end of last year, rust-coloured water began pouring into Whitehaven Harbour, Cumbria (left and right), leaving locals confused about where it had come from. The harbour dates back to 1634, when a local landowner constructed the Old Quay, which is now one of Britain's oldest coal wharves. It was used to unload fish, sugar from the West Indies, and chemicals for a nearby detergent factory in later years. A hydrogeological investigation will now be carried out on the groundwater above a nearby railway tunnel (inset), which carries the Cumbrian Coast line under the town, as part of efforts to figure out why the harbour has turned orangey-brown.

Councillors in Central Bedfordshire deny the delivery of £660k free school meals until they approve their own pay rise

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 1, 2022
Since refusing to debating a £660,000 increase for free school meals moments before, local councillors have been accused of telling "sob-stories" about how they are struggling in the cost-of-living crisis to ensure their own pay raises. The Conservatives in Central Bedfordshire have voted against debating a motion for an inflationary 5% increase in the £6.6 million free school meals budget, which includes just 82p worth of food per day after other expenses. Cllr Steve Dixon (right), one of the country's biggest owners, said that "whether you live in a cottage or a manor house, we're all affected by rising cost-of-living increases." The motion to raise the authority's free school meals budget was made by independent opposition councillor Gareth Mackey (left) last Thursday, but the council executive appears to have declined it.

WARNING, DISTRESSING CONTENT: A 'toxic culture' at Edenfield Centre (bottom right) in Prestwich, Bury, has seen nurses humiliate vulnerable people with mental disorders. Staff were caught swearing at patients, inappropriately restraining, and even sexually behaving sexually towards them, according to an undercover reporter for BBC Panorama. Patients at the hospital are detained under the Mental health Act, and they are in danger of injuring themselves or others. Professor John Baker (inset), chair of mental health nursing at the University of Leeds, said the staff behaviour was dangerous and 'really concerning'
