Early life
Jordison was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 26, 1975, to Steve and Jackie Jordison. He had two younger sisters. He grew up in a rural area outside of Waukee, where he used to play basketball on the street in front of his house. At an early age, he discovered music, which he attributes to his parents' influence: "They always sat me down in front of the radio rather than watching the television." He played guitar until receiving his first drum kit as a gift from his parents at age eight, and he formed his first band while attending elementary school.
When he was young, Jordison's parents divorced. The children were still with their mother. His mother remarried and opened a funeral parlor where Jordison would occasionally assist. Jordison said he felt a sudden desire to be the house's man. He formed Modifidious, a rock band in which he played drums, around this time. "Total speed-metal thrash" was later described as "total thrash" by the author. Jordison's support to local bands such as Atomic Opera, featuring Jim Root, and Heads on the Wall, starring Shawn Crahan, made the band help Jordison break new ground. On a night called "Bowl-O-Rama," he also played at a bowling center that his family owned. Following a slew of lineup changes, Craig Jones and Josh Brainard, who will reappear in Slipknot, were among the band's most popular demos in 1993: Visceral and Mud Fuchia.
Jordison was recruited by a local music store called Musicland after leaving school. He started working at a Sinclair garage in Urbandale in March 1994 after a recommendation from his new friend. Jordison worked the night shift, which he loved because it freed his weekends and encouraged him to spend time with his colleagues and listen to music while working. Modifidious disbanded early 1995 in America due to a change in interest from thrash metal to death metal. Following this Jordison's death, he performed in Rejects, a local band, with whom he appeared in just a few shows. Jordison was also active in the Anal Blast, a British band led by Paul Gray and vocalist Don Decker. Body Pit, Gray's other band, had tried to recruit him for another band, but he declined to remain in The Rejects. During the inception of Slipknot, Paul Hood recruited Joey to join the Have Nots, a punk band. Joey would leave the Have Nots in February 1997 to "concentrate on Slipknot," but the Rejects, which would play Des Moines up until Slipknot's debut in 1999. Hasn't been allowed to record their own debut album since the Have Nots broke up in February 1997.
Career
When Mark Anthony Cadavos was working, he approached Jordison, offering him a position in a new initiative called The Pale Ones. Jordison, who was "lost" at the time, attended rehearsals at Anders Colsefni's basement and immediately wanted to be part of this new band, and was eager to be a part of it. "I remember trying so hard not to smile," he said, so I didn't want to join, I stayed poker-faced, but I thought they had ruled." Early development of Slipknot was discussed by band members, but Jordison worked night shifts at Sinclair's garage, which was a large part of the Slipknot's early development. Joey was the third of the band's potential nine members. Slipknot will be pioneers of the new wave of American heavy metals. Two custom percussionists joined Jordison, giving their music a sense of "suffocating" in Rolling Stone's description.
Each member of Slipknot has been assigned a number; Joey was given the number "#1" in honor of "#1. Joey made one album with Slipknot from 2005's live album 9.0: Live. Jordison fractured his ankle in August 2008, and Slipknot was forced to postpone some of its English tour dates. Jordison was admitted to the hospital for a burst appendix less than an hour before he was scheduled to perform in the Grass concert in Auburn, Washington. Slipknot canceled after shows in August and September to give Jordison time to recover.
Jordison had left the band on December 12, 2013, Slipknot's official website revealed it, citing personal reasons for his departure. Jordison released a statement claiming that he had been kicked out of the band and that Slipknot "has been my life for the past 18 years, and I will never abandon it or my followers."

Jordison talked to Tripp Eisen, then of Static-X, while touring Ozzfest in 2001 to promote Slipknot's studio album Iowa; the two discussed starting a side project. Jordison revived his band The Rejects in 2002, renaming them the Murderdolls. Jordison was the Murderdolls' guitarist, and he recruited 13 of Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13 to play bass on Wednesday. Ben Graves and bassist Eric Griffin completed the band's lineup on Wednesday, with drummer Ben Graves becoming a vocalist. In 2002, Murderdolls signed with Roadrunner Records and released an EP titled Right to Remain Violent. The band's debut album Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls came in August 2002. The band takes inspiration for their lyrics from Friday the 13th and Night of the Living Dead. The Murderdolls appeared on Dawson's Creek's "Life Dead Girl" on October 30, 2002. With only Jordison and Wednesday 13 people from the original line-up, the band reformed in 2010. On August 31, 2010, the band's second studio album Women & Children appeared. The band began performing on the extensive Women & Children Last World Tour, alongside many well-known acts, including Guns N' Roses and others around the world. Many issues, including the cancellation of several shows and repeated cases of Jordison storming off stage, were present throughout the tour, including in Bordeaux, France (due to extreme tinnitus) and Perth, Western Australia, were plagued. The tour came to an end on April 24, 2011. In an interview in March 2013, the band's disbandement was supposed to be the band's last outing.
Jordison, Jed Simon, and Kris Norris were among a new band's names that debuted in April 2013. Other than Jordison's role in this project, little else was disclosed; Jordison's involvement was limited, and Chris Vrenna and an unknown vocalist were to complete keyboard and vocal duties respectively. Scar the Martyr and Henry Derek, the band's vocalist, was named on June 21. Jordison announced on May 5, 2016 that the scheme had been cancelled.

James Hetfield, Metallica's vocalist, looked amongst other bands on the festival to find a replacement for Ulrich; Jordison, Flemming Larsen (Ulrich's drum technician), and Dave Lombardo of Slayer volunteered. Jordison appeared on 8 of the 13 songs on the set and was dubbed the band's "hero of the day" by the band. When drummer Frost was refused admission to the United States, Jordison performed with Satyricon on their tour of the United States in late 2004. Steinar Gundersen and Arnt Gronbech, guitarists who were then only touring guests, were charged with sexually assaulting a fan in Toronto. Jordison joined Ministry in 2006 for their "MasterBaTour 2006" series, which culminated in sixty dates from around the United States and Canada. After Tommy Clufetos withdrew from the band, Jordison began touring with Rob Zombie.
