Adventures in glass sculpting… It was an honor and a privilege to study for a day under the watchful eye of Master Glass Sculptor martin_blank1 in his Seattle studio. Not only is he a passionate genius, he’s a phenomenal teacher. Sofía had a big birthday this year and I commissioned him to make her “a bouquet of flowers that would never die.” He invited me up to Seattle for the last day of sculpting and threw me in as if it was my first day of work. Absorbing the level of danger (the oven is 2,250 degrees) and choreography involved was akin to sky diving or learning a very dangerous stunt or fight scene on set. As you can see, I made a little surprise for Sofía and am now contemplating a second career… THANK YOU to Martin and his incredibly talented team.
