Along the east coast of New Jersey, legislators, and former SNL actor Jim Breuer are fighting the off-shore wind, with some residents, lawmakers, and former SNL stars Jim Breuer claiming that the sonar blasting caused hundreds of whales in the last year. According to a New Jersey resident, nearly 16 whales died and 72 were found dead along with 53 beached dolphins along the coast from December 2022. Sonar is used to map the seafloor for suitable windmill locations, but many fear the loud sounds is disrupting animals' movements, causing them to be pushed into boats or onto the shore.
