Jerome Henry "Jerry" Brudos (January 31, 1939-2006), an American serial killer and necrophile who murdered at least four women in Oregon between 1968 and 1969, was a man of at least four women.
Early life
Jerry Brudos was born in Webster, South Dakota, as the younger of two sons. His mother had longed for a child but was dissatisfied that she had another son instead and regularly subjected him to emotional and physical abuse. Brudos and his family would first move to various places in the Pacific Northwest before settling in Salem, Oregon.
Since playing with stiletto heeled shoes at a local garbage cane, the Brudos had a fetish for women's shoes from the age of five. According to reports, he threatened to take the shoes of his first-grade teacher. Brudos also had a fetish for women's underwear and boasted that he would take underwear from female neighbors as a child. He spent his teen years in and out of psychotherapy and psychiatric hospitals.
Brudos began stalking local women in their teen years, knocking them down or choking them unconscious, and running with their shoes. He kidnapped and beaten a young woman, threatening to stab her if she did not follow his sexual instructions at age 17. He was admitted to a mental ward of Oregon State Hospital for nine months shortly after being arrested. Brudos' sexual fantasies revolved around his resentment toward his mother and women in general, according to them. He underwent a psychiatric examination and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Despite being institutionalized, the Brutos graduated from high school with his class in 1957. He became an electronics technician right after graduation.
In 1961, Brudos married a 17-year-old teen with whom he would father two children and settled in a Salem suburb. Despite a pair of high heels as he took pictures, he begged his new bride to do housework naked except for a pair of high heels. It was around this time that he began experiencing migraine headaches and "blackouts," reducing his symptoms by night-prowling attacks to steal shoes and lace undergarments. Brudos will experience a transvestite period in which he used the female persona as a sort of escape device. Brudos kept the shoes, underwear, and (for a time) the bodies of his victims in a garage that he would not allow his wife to enter without first announcing her arrival on an intercom that he had set up.
