Another Spygate scandal could be on the horizon as the Canadian women's soccer coach Bev Priestman was sent home from the Paris Olympics amid a slew of drone spying allegations.  Canada Soccer confirmed Priestman was suspended on Thursday after 'additional information' was brought to their attention regarding 'previous drone use against opponents, predating the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.'  Assistant coach Andy Spence will replace her for the rest of the tournament after members of the team allegedly used drones to spy on rival New Zealand, who were beaten by Canada 2-1 in the first round.

After letting their outgoing GM go days after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series, the defending champions of the Houston Astros have a new general manager. Dana Brown, a long-serving MLB scout, will take over the Astros' baseball team, replacing James Clink, who was hired in 2020 after Houston's sign-stealing scandal that resulted in Jeff Luhnow's dismissal of him and boss A. J. Hinch's dismissal. In a team statement, Astros' owner Jim Crane said, 'We're thrilled to have Dana join our team.' He brings championship caliber (sic) experience to our team and is the right choice for us to continue to produce a winning franchise both on and off the track.' Brown's resume is long. He spent time in Toronto as a special assistant to Blue Jays' GM Ross Atkins, and before that, he served as director of scouting for the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals franchise. He started his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

At a parade through the city streets with Jim 'Mattress Mack' McIngvale, the world's most profitable gambler, toasted the team's second World Series victory. After winning the World Series, Mack won a whopping $75 million. Mayor Sylvester Turner of Houston advised supporters attending the victory parade to 'arrive early, wear Astros' colors, be loud, and celebrate safely.' At noon, the parade began. On Saturday, Yordan Alvarez scored a three-run homer and the Astros claimed their second World Series title in six seasons, beating the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 in Game 6. According to a city news release, the downtown parade after the Astros' 2017 victory brought in about 1 million people, and the parade's organizers anticipated about that many people to attend Monday's parade.

After sweeping the Yankees, the Astros bust out the champagne

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 24, 2022
On Sunday, the Houston Astros busted out the brooms and bubbly to celebrate their four-game victory over the New York Yankees in the Bronx. After the Astros' 6-5 victory on a rainy night at Yankee Stadium, Dusty Baker told the Houston Chronicle, 'It's fun.' They deserve it.' Since former Houston pitcher Mike Fiers blew the whistle on the team's sign-stealing policy in 2019, it has been a hot topic in baseball circles. During the 2017 season, fans now know that a centerfield camera and other methods were used to relay opposing battery hand signs to Astros hitters. However, although boss AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow were both suspended and fired for the scheme, many fans believed the Astros incurred a modest penalty: a lack of draft picks, $5 million fine, and some bad publicity. Players went unpunished due to their inability to cooperate with the MLB investigation, much to the displeasure of many. However, if the scandal has been the biggest blow for the Astros, the club seemed to turn the page on Sunday, once more, pouring champagne.

The team no one wants to win: Could Houston Astros clinch World Series glory again?

One by one, the villains are leaving the stage, but the performance continues on. Just five players remain of the most hated baseball team since Shoeless Joe's Black Sox of 1919. Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Yuli Gurriel, Lance McCullers Jr., and Justin Verlander are the last surviving parts of the 2017 Houston Astros, the team that defeated it all without having to give their all. The squad that used cameras and a trash can to cheat their way into the 2017 play-offs, overcoming the sport's three most popular names - Boston, New York, and Los Angeles - en route to a championship. When the program was announced in 2019, it lost Houston's chief (AJ Hinch), general manager (Jeff Luhnow), and the city's only World Series victory.

During a sign-stealing investigation, ex-Astros GM Jeff Luhnow' deleted phone records,' according to Jeff Luhnow.'

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 24, 2022
Jeff Luhnow, the general manager of the New England Astros, allegedly deleted personal information from his phone in the hopes of releasing it to Major League Baseball investigators during the 2019 investigation into allegations of unlawful sign stealing by the team's players two years ago. Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch were both suspended for a season by MLB and fired by the Astros on January 13, 2020, after league investigators discovered that Houston players were stealing opposing catchers' signs en route to the club's first championship in 2017. Now author Evan Drellich claims Luhnow was accused of deleting electronic evidence relating to the probe but told MLB officials that he was editing personal photos of his wife.'
