Jeffrey Lane Hephner (born June 22, 1975) is an American actor best known for his role as Jeff Clarke, first on the NBC television show Chicago Fire and then on its sister program, Chicago Med.

He co-starred Jennifer Garner in the action thriller film Peppermint more recently.

He appeared in the National Geographic TV series MARS in 2016 and 2016.

In January 2019, he co-starred with Jaime Lee Curtis and Tika Sumpter in the film An Acceptable Loss, directed by Joe Chappelle.

Hephner has appeared in more than 50 films and television shows, including as Morgan Stanley Buffkin in the CW comedy-drama Easy Money (2008–2009) and as Ben Zajac in the Starz political drama Boss (2011–2012) with Kelsey Grammer.

He appeared in Agent X, a short-lived TNT action drama.

Early life

Hephner was born in Adrian, Michigan, to Tom and Patti Hephner, and grew up in Sand Creek, Michigan near Adrian. Hephner was an athlete growing up, playing basketball and football, and he graduated from Sand Creek High School. Hephner was selected to the all-state team for Class C-D in 1993-1994.

He attended and played basketball for Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, for two years before transferring to Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, for two years.

Career

Hephner began his film career in small roles, including Tigerland (2000) and Maid in Manhattan (2004). In 2005, he appeared in the short-lived Fox series The Jury, and in the NBC series Law & Order: Criminal Intent, episode 21 titled "The Unblinking Eye," a film starring Robert Johnson. In the Hallmark Hall of Fame television film The Water Is Wide (2006), based on Conroy's book and a remake of the drama Conrack (1974), Hephner starred as author Pat Conroy.

He appeared in the CW series Easy Money, which aired for four episodes in October 2008 before being cancelled. In mid-2009, the other four episodes were released. Hephner appeared in Private Practice, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, NCIS, Castle, and was a regular participant in four episodes of the NBC medical drama Mercy after the cancellation of Easy Money. Hephner was replaced by Ben Browder in a recurring role in the CW's Hellcats as football coach Red Raymond in 2010.

On its list of "TV's Sexiest Men of 2011," Hephner ranked #86 on its list of "TV's Sexiest Men of 2011" by BuddyTV. Hephner appeared in the NBC series The Playboy Club in 2011, but Eddie Cibrian took the role before filming began. Hephner appeared in the Starz political drama series Boss from 2011 to 2012. Hephner appeared in the second season of the NBC drama Chicago Fire from 2013 to 2014. Hephner co-starred with Sharon Stone in the TNT series Agent X in 2015.

Hephner played Jeff Clarke in Chicago Fire's medical spinoff Chicago Med, where Clarke returns to medical school for the first time. He appeared in the first season finale and recurred in the series until the end of the second season.
