He is currently starring in The Paynes as Kenny Payne on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
He starred in 2019's The Lion King as the voice of young Simba.

Career
McCrary started his acting career in 2015 in K.C., age 8. He appeared on two episodes undercover. He appeared on Childish Gambino's song "Terrified" in December 2016. He then appeared on Little Big Shots, "I Want You Back," The Ellen Show performing "Who's Lovin' You," and the 60th Annual Grammy Awards to support Childish Gambino's "Terrified" performed in Little Big Shots. After a viral singing performance a few weeks ago, he sang the national anthem before a Los Angeles Clippers game in December 2017. In 2017, he appeared on I'm Dying Up Here and Teachers as minor characters.
"Inviting All of You" was his first official single released on January 14, 2018. JD McCrary became the youngest artist to sign with Disney Music Group's Hollywood Records, releasing the music video to his second album "My Name" on August 28, 2018. On January 24, 2019, he debuted the first single since signing to the label "Keep in Touch." On the Oprah Winfrey Network, he appears in The Paynes.
McCrary appeared in the Universal comedy film Little in 2019 and was the voice of young Simba in the Disney film The Lion King's live action version. "Donald Glover [who plays adult Simba] is so talented that [I] actually did have to take it into account because if Simba is going to grow up to be some sort of figure and you know why," McCrary said. In the BET series American Soul, which premiered in February, McCrary portrayed a young Michael Jackson. McCrary's debut EP, Shine, featured Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, who was born on April 19th.
