Edgar Berlanga scored his first knockout in more than three years with Padraig McCrory's sixth-round stoppage on Saturday, and now the 26-year-old super middleweight hopes to face Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. After winning in Orlando on Saturday, Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) told DAZN's Chris Mannix, 'I want him now.' Canelo is next on the agenda,' says the narrator.' Berlanga, a Brooklyn boxer of Puerto Rican descent, had won 16 knockouts in his first 16 fights, but that came to an abrupt stop in 2022, with difficult unanimous victories over Steve Rolls, Roamer Alexis Angulo, and Jason Quigley. When Berlanga attempted to bite his opponents and was subsequently banned by the New York State Athletic Commission, he was at his lowest point against Angulo. Berlanga and promoter Eddie Hearn claim he did enough against McCrory to warrant a championship shot against Mexico's Alvarez, the undisputed champion at 168 pounds.
