On Tuesday, Calia Australia, which had stores in Melbourne, began liquidation. Around 100 workers from Calia Australia received an email on December 28 notifying them that the chain's Emporium shopping center and Chadstone were closing. Staff were also told that the company's email addresses would no longer be monitored, and that all inquiries regarding salaries and superannuation should be directed to liquidation firm Jirsch Sutherland. The email said that company had tried to keep the chain afloat, but that "covid-related debt" and rising costs drove it to close.

Around 100 workers from Calia Australia got an email last Thursday, December 28, advising that the chain's Emporium shopping center and Chadstone were due to close the same day. Despite its ending more than two years ago, co-founder Jason Chang, a City of Melbourne councillor, blaming his financial difficulties on 'the world's longest lockdown.'

Two famous restaurants in prime Melbourne locations have been forced into administration due to Victoria's cost of living crisis and repeated lockdowns. Calia Australia, which operates eateries in Emporium and Chadstone, as well as a specialist food and drinks chain, has entered voluntary administration. Jason Chang (pictured left with wife Clara) who co-owns the restaurants with Ricky Thien informed customers by posting an emotional social media message.
